Can I name my baby after a long running soap star?

Think
Emily Bishop
Rita Tanner
Audrey Roberts
Sally Barlow
Annie Sugden
Etc

The first name was my grandmothers so it's very special to me, but I don't know it I can use it as the soap character has been around for almost 30 years.

Do you think it would be too silly?

Go for it! Smile

It's fine. I was named after a long running soap star and not one single person has mentioned it in my entire life aside from my parents

NiceCuppaTeaAndASitDown · 16/03/2017 13:08

Thanks everyone Smile and thanks for your honesty Stella. It looks as though it's not an issue for most people so it's going on the list!

I've never heard of her either. I've also met a couple of people called Audra which I also think is nice.

Flappergirl86 · 16/03/2017 14:38

It's a really pretty name but there's no escaping the connection. Unless you threw in a middle name and made sure it was used regularly. Or maybe you could include your maiden name in her surname/s x

NotYoda · 16/03/2017 19:11

Audrey is lovely

As an aside, I really used to love the name Bianca. Would not be brave enough to use that one, though (unlike Audrey Roberts)

Ham69 · 16/03/2017 22:57

I'm a Corrie fan but can't see a problem with it. I know an Emily Bishop and no one has batted an eyelid. The minority will notice and nothing to worry about. Lovely name.

WowserBowser · 16/03/2017 23:28

Audrey was always my absolute favourite girl's name. But if i ever mentioned it, people would always comment about Coronation Street. That's without the added surname. I just wouldn't.

LorLorr2 · 17/03/2017 03:17

I've never heard of her before. It's a sweet name! If you have any doubts it could be a middle name. Tessa, Freya and Grace are a few that would go nicely in front of Audrey if you want to get the ball rolling haha :)

AML84 · 17/03/2017 04:09

I hear Audrey I always think of Hepburn - and not everyone watches soaps. Audrey Roberts is a lovely name Smile

BikeRunSki · 17/03/2017 06:05

I have no idea who Audrey Roberts is, but have remained fairly unscathed having the same name as a male rock star.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 17/03/2017 06:22

Yes, Audrey Roberts is fine. You'll probably go off it now we've said it's ok. I found I was always drawn to the names we couldn't have.

blueskyinmarch · 17/03/2017 06:38

I don't watch Coronation Street so have never heard of that character. Nice name.

Silverdream · 17/03/2017 06:43

I don't think it's a good idea to call her that she will spend her life having people point it out. When her name is on forms people in offices will be saying look what this persons called. People may comment when it's called out at appointments. You'll be asked if you're a corri fan. She'll hate you for it tbh. Why make life more complicated than it needs to be.

Underthemoonlight · 17/03/2017 06:48

Could you hange it slight to aubree Roberts instead?

Underthemoonlight · 17/03/2017 06:48

Change"

colourmylife · 17/03/2017 09:05

Honestly I wouldn't if I were you. It's a lovely name but I can't get past Audrey from corrie connotations and she is recognisable for a lot of generations. I wouldn't want people to laugh when they hear my baby's name.
Could that be a middle name?

ShoutOutToMyEx · 17/03/2017 09:08

I would never have made the connection if you hadn't said.

As an aside, those names sound lovely together - I can see why they chose them for a character!

EasyBoySleazyJet · 17/03/2017 15:04

I have a mate called David Cameron

Before the last GE I got an email from someone with that name who was writing (to members) for the Labour Party. They should have had him more involved in higher profile campaigning

I know who the Audrey Roberts character is in C Street even though I never watch it but I always associate the actress with Rentaghost which was great. My two eldest have names that people always assume are named after very famous musicians even though they weren't but I just think you can't please everyone with names so just choose what you like. Hopefully the Audrey Roberts name is too old to be dated for a child

UnmentionedElephantDildo · 17/03/2017 15:16

If you go in to have a DS, would he be Alf?
