Giving Son his dad's surname as his first name?

Son will have my surname. I love his dad's surname. Is it doable?

I don't think it's a good idea. I am sure it's possible but why on earth would you do that? I generally don't like first name that are surnames, but in this case it would be his dad's surname? It will be confusing, people will point it out. Surely you can see that it's not a great idea?

I have my dh first name as my surname.
Ds has a first name with dh full name as his double barrelled surname!!
If it works for you just do it!!

It would depend on what his surname is. For example Little is fine for a last name but not really a forename.

I always wondered this about SATC. Miranda's son was Brady Hobbs but then she got back together with Steve Brady...

Is there a possibility that you may marry the father and change your surname and your son's? (What I mean is you don't want to end up with your son being Harrison Harrison or Morgan Morgan)

I would have dad's surname as a middle name if you are married and haven't changed your name or plan to remain unmarried.

It'd be a lovely reminder if you have an acrimonious break up in the future! For that reason, I'd probably stick it in as a middle name instead.

Alice I think she means a name that is only his. So the DS would share his first name with his dad and his surname with his mum.

World - oh you mean like being Alice 212 the 2nd? It's not the same because say dad is called Edward Flynn, the baby would be Flynn Jones or whatever.

I really like it, and flynn is a great name. I guess my only reservation would be how you'd feel if you have more children, would you worry they'll feel less special if their brother has a part of your dh's name and they don't?

You've just said you love the Dad's surname - so why isn't that your surname?! Then he would have it, and you could give him a proper first name.

Not quite the same, but in bits of the world, Dad's first name becomes kids surname. So the kids belonging to Arthur Smith are Garry Arthur and Laura Arthur. When Garry has kids they are Harry Garry and Evie Garry.

Is your surname one that can be a Christian name? That's the only time I'd think twice (so is the bloke down the road James Harrison, or Harrison James?)

I think this would be fine - although the point about future siblings is a good one.
