Please tell me how you would pronounce a Turkish name Deniz? I'm thinking of giving this name to our boy but only if its easy to say for other people. Help, please!

Kerem, Su and Alara.

Only a few people struggle with Kerem. It's read Keh-rem but sometimes we have
Kerr-em.

Middle names: Ahmet, Ayla and Zeliha

Lovely names swannview! Especially Su. I know that it means water in Turkish.

Thank you guys for all your answers. I really appreciate your help.
We will call him Deniz.☺

Sorry, it reminds me of the De-neez (as in 'the niece') and De-nephew ('the nephew') joke which I cannot repeat here, though for all intents and purposes it was rather funny in a good way...

Isn't the Turkish holiday place - Olu Deniz, prounounced by the English as : hola (as in Spanish 'ola) Denise?

ScarletSienna · 07/03/2017 11:58

Deh-niz

I used to work with a woman who had this name.

English speaking people tended to call her Denise. I guess a boy might be called Dennis.

I always try to get the pronunciation of someone's name right, as best I can, but often people with non-British names seem to just accept the best approximation of their name in English.

I would say Den-iz, and articulate the "e" sound, rather that saying "Duh-niz".

Pretty much like Denise but with a softer z sound instead of the s.

That's how I always pronounced it to the Deniz I used to work with... God I hope it was right Blush Confused

He was a man, btw.
