I was going to say I don't know one then I remembered I used to have an auntie Vi, long passed, who must have been Violet. I don't like it at all.

reuset · 06/03/2017 15:50

It's in the top 100 and still on the rise, year upon year. Only you can decide if that's too popular for you. Nice name, though.

BaymaxismyHero · 06/03/2017 17:41

Very nice name, don't know any.

Boygirlmummy · 06/03/2017 17:46

I don't know any, I think it's lovely. I would have used it had my surname not began with a D. No-one wants a venereal disease!!

Go for it

MrsMeeseeks · 06/03/2017 18:38

I have never met a Violet! There are none in my kids' schools.

harderandharder2breathe · 06/03/2017 19:41

I only know 1 but my sample is mostly girls over age 7, so not sure if it's surged in popularity reccentkyv

Northernlurker · 06/03/2017 19:50

I don't know any ATM. I like it but prefer Viola tbh.

I named my daughter Violet in 2013, genuinely thinking it was quite an obscure name! I was quite gutted when I realised (shortly after she was born ) that it was gaining so much popularity (I'm a teacher and really wanted to avoid her being one of many with her name in her class). However, I still absolutely love it - it really does get loads of lovely, positive responses (totally get what the PP meant when she mentioned the sparkle in people's eyes when they hear it!) and it totally suits her.

Vi has become a nickname, despite me not being keen at first (I was planning on Lettie - never stuck!). Love it now though!

Rockaby · 06/03/2017 20:06

I'm tempted to name any future DD Violet now, just to witness this famous sparkle! Wink

Kazzawazza69 · 06/03/2017 20:53

My niece is Violet - she's 18 months old. I don't know any others. I think it's a beautiful name.

Dontrocktheboat · 06/03/2017 21:40

I really like Violet, though it is definitely on the rise. I know one aged about 4 and heard of a baby locally born recently.

To the poster who commented it is not that popular (71 in the charts last year), just for comparison I dutifully checked the baby name charts in 2007to make sure chosen name for pfb was not too popular, and was pleased to find it was only at number 65. The name? - Isla! It is definitely worth checking for year on year increase in popularity rather than actual position, and I reckon Violet is likely to be a rapid riser (though maybe not top 10).

caffelatte100 · 06/03/2017 21:56

Nice name, and it's not too popular so go for it!!!

jolene900 · 06/03/2017 22:01

thank u all so much for the feedback. i still like it maybe i will have to save it for another time another child haha xGrin

hels71 · 06/03/2017 22:22

As a teacher of over 20 years i have only met one Violet, and she is in my class now. I have links with various other schools around here and there are no more Violets in any of them. I think it is a lovely name..

courtwood · 07/03/2017 23:18

My friend is Viola, a nice and unusual variation on Violet

mollyminniemo · 08/03/2017 13:35

My baby DD is Violet, my DS has a name not even in 100 so popularity was a concern for me. But given its still much outside the top 50, the beauty of it swung it for me. People definitely get the sparkle when I say it Smile and judging from friends/creches/nurseries we use my DD is the only Violet under 5 most have come across- we in London.

When people suggest Viola -its a completely different name to me- picturing a musical instrument rather than the flower is entirely different, so always find the suggestion a little bizarre. Confused

herethereandeverywhere · 08/03/2017 13:44

I only know of one.

I'm afraid I can't get past how close it is to 'Violent', both in sound and how it appears written down.

I accept that's just me though.
