I always liked weird names. Not Jamie Oliver's kids weird, just unusual. Partner likes VERY usual names. Isabella, Emily, Olivia are his favourites - all SUPER common and popular.

I was one of 3 Rebecca's in a class. I don't want a common name! I love the names Sapphire, Dottie and Merida. He isnt keen.

The ONLY name we've both been able to agree on liking so far is Florence, it's exhausting but we have to decide!

Please help! Any middle of the road, less common but also pretty girls names, please?!

Florence is very popular atm.
My DD is Heidi and if the next one is a girl she will be Annika.

I think you should go with one of his names but agree on a 'unusual' nickname.

E.g. - Isabella could be isa, Bella or ibby?
Emily could be Emmie?
Olivia could be livi or Lia?

Ilikethenamesadie · 27/02/2017 23:50

Or love Marianne like another person said

Ilikethenamesadie · 27/02/2017 23:51

Also Marin or Marnie for short

Nelllo · 28/02/2017 00:08

If he likes Olivia why not Olive?

We also had Irene on our girl list. It's a little bit "weird".

Also -

I just met a woman named Danae. I love that. Can't go wrong with a Greek goddess.

I have to agree that I prefer his choices to yours, sorry! Except that his are so popular!

I agree with someone's suggestion of looking at names that were more popular when we were growing up, or looking at the classics and thinking about unusual nicknames.

Audrey, Paloma, Frida

Love unusual but strong sounding names. I also think they sound quite iconic.

Whilst I do prefer his names to yours (sorry) you do need a compromise that you both like.

If you agree on Florence, what about other 'older' names:

Martha
Charlotte
Lillian/Lillias
Margaret - Maggie
Matilda
Clara
Felicity - Flick/Fliss
Bessie
Rose/Rosie/Rosamund
Eliza
Elise
Ella
Anna/Anne/Annie
Beatrice/Beatrix
Edith - Edie
Dorothea - Dottie

Rebecca
Theodora/Theodosia
Phoebe
Mabel

Meredith
Millicent - Millie
Penelope - Penny
Alice
Evangeline
Harriet
Georgiana
GenevieveCamille/Camilla
Ariana/Ariene
Sophia
Violet
Ava
Belle - may be a bigger issue with the new film out this year though

etc
