Need some help with name ideas, I'm 36 weeks so running out of time slowly... We agreed on Lux a while ago but my entire family seem against it so trying to keep an open mind :) thanks!

Please not Talia. A friend got called Jenny throughout school.

Jenny. Talia. Hmm

Lux is just hilariously awful (sorry!).

How about:
Arlette
Roxanne
Felicity
Penelope
Aurelia
June

I would never tell anyone in real life what our name choices/thoughts were for exactly that reason. Once the baby is here and you've announced her name then family and friends just have to lump it and get on with it!

If Lux is your favourite then go for it, it doesn't really matter what anyone else thinks.

Lux is lovely. I really don't see what's so 'hilariously awful' about it. So apparently it's the name of a (apparently ubiquitous) soap I've never heard of, in spite of living in the U.K. for the first 27 years of my life Hmm but who cares? How is that such a bad association?

It reminds me of The Virgin Suicides, which is a stunning book by a wonderful writer. I'm pretty sure he chose Lux because it's quite a sensual name that rhymes with, ahem, certain sexual slang words, but it's based on a Catholic shrine too.

I chose my DS's name even though my whole family were against it. It's a perfectly nice name that they just happened not to like. I won't be telling them the names next time.

Some other names I like:

Blaise
Cassia
Leda
Miri
Hesper
Valo

I think if you have your heart set on a name then you shouldn't change it because family doesn't like it.

SaudadeObama · 01/03/2017 14:00

Lais or Laís pronounced Lah-ees

Bipbopbee · 01/03/2017 14:08

Meadow

Luna
Avery
Aria
Isolda
Angeline

Lux makes me think of soap, sorry.

Bipbopbee · 01/03/2017 14:23

Ooh Cassia is gorgeous.
Agree though any name is personal choice, as long as it's obviously not on the banned list Wink

agnes158 · 01/03/2017 18:58

Maybe try a welsh or scottish name as (assuming you don't live in those places!) they are likely to be more unusual

ie

Arwen
Menna
Deryn
Aderyn
Enid (en-id not ee-nid)
Annis

agnes158 · 01/03/2017 18:59

p.s i like the name lux

NoYouDontKnowItAll · 01/03/2017 20:36

Someone on the thread said Marley, I know a Marley very well and everyone assumes he was named after Bob Marley but he wasn't it was Jacob Marley ghost character from a Dickens novel

I've never heard of Lux before and it does sound unusual but don't be swayed by anyone's opinions

crapfatbanana · 01/03/2017 20:49

I also think of The Virgin Suicides first and the soap second... but I do like the name.

Other ideas:

Mhairi
Dawn
Inez
Sally
Helen
Hera
Janet
Rita
Lois
Maxine
Zilpah
Janine
Jean

I know it's not unusual but Jolie is 1 I've not heard of much lately. I also like what Beyonce's done with colours and flowers. Lila (pronounced Lie-la, short for lilac) Rose, Violet Rose, Poppy Jade, Amber Rose, Emerald Grace, Indigo Bleu..... Could go on lol

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 06/03/2017 12:56

I wasn't brave enough to go for it myself but do love the name Calypso!

It's a shame you've been put off Lux.
It's one thing to ask point blank on this section, "What do you reckon?" Fair game, then.
In RL it's risky to share because if it's not instantly familiar, then people will gleefully tell you it's a soap or a place you have never visited so how dare you or it's their dog's name.
