Which surname is nicer?

Neither of us are particularly fussed about keeping our surname. We are married but kept our own names but will change when we register DD.

So which surname is better (we have decided we will go with the 'nicer' one) thanks :)

Blackmon or Stephenson.

Thanks again!

Stephenson

Stephenson. I also like Stephenson-Black.

DebbieBilly · 13/02/2017 23:01

How come?

Stephenson

SingaSong12 · 13/02/2017 23:04

I prefer Stephenson
Never heard of the other.

Sweets101 · 13/02/2017 23:04

It just looks and sounder nicer.

TheEdgeofSeventeen · 13/02/2017 23:05

Stephenson because Blackmon possibly invites kids calling him or her 'black man' as an insult and mimicking a Jamaican accent whilst doing it 'black-mon' - doesn't really make much sense and I know being called ' black man' isn't an insult but kids are weird. I like the persons suggestion about Stephenson-Black

Bringbacksummer · 13/02/2017 23:05

Stephenson. A more gentile sounding name in my opinion. Also, I'm put off by the fact it's "mom" not "man" as I think people would often spell it the wrong way. (I have a last name that is always spelled wrong and it bugs me on a frequent basis so that's why it's put me off).

TheEdgeofSeventeen · 13/02/2017 23:06

I'm just being honest BTW about the connotations the name makes me think about so please don't get mad at me Confused

Bringbacksummer · 13/02/2017 23:06

*"mon"

DebbieBilly · 13/02/2017 23:07

Blackmon is said as Blackmun, same as the 'son' sound in Stephenson.

--As you can tell, Blackmon is my surname lmao

That's fine though, thank you. Will probably go for Stephenson.

We are not keen on double-barrelling :)

OP posts:
YellowCrocus · 13/02/2017 23:08

I like Stephenson-Black!

BertrandRussell · 13/02/2017 23:12

I don't believe it! Another woman's last name that's difficult to spell, possibly awkward to use and not "gentle sounding". Who'd a'thought it!

YellowCrocus · 13/02/2017 23:13

If you don't like double-barrelling, you should portmanteau!
Blaphenson
Blackmenson
Stephenmon
You get the gist....

F1GI · 13/02/2017 23:19

Stephenson is better because Blackmon surely gets spelt Blackman which is a much more common surname?

HelenDenver · 13/02/2017 23:20

TBF, Bertrand, at least this time they were presented "owner blind"...

EggsEleven · 13/02/2017 23:21

What's your point Bert? The majority of posters so far didn't know that Blackmon was the OP's surname when they commented and gave their opinion.

user1487027116 · 13/02/2017 23:26

What ever name you give, it's yours, everyone suits their name. My surname is always mispronounced but I like it, it's unique. I know a lot of Stephenson's, no Blackmun's.

DebbieBilly · 13/02/2017 23:26

Yes, I'm normally asked how it's spelt or sometimes get Blackman sometimes it's spelt correctly but DH often gets Stevenson.

Naughtyfrog · 13/02/2017 23:34

I like Yellowcrocus idea, especially Stephenmon

TheDowagerCuntess · 13/02/2017 23:39

I vote for Blackmon.

I think 'unusual' is better than 'nicer'. Wink

When it comes to surnames, at least.

Sophronia · 13/02/2017 23:55

Stephenson
