What do people think of the name Nina for our DC3?

We want something unusual but known and easy to spell. That's what we have for our other two.

I love the association with Nina Simone. I also love that it's used across multiple languages and means, in different languages, "mother", "flower", "dreamer" and "little girl".

I like it and I like it despite the fact that I went to primary school with a Nina who was a total bitch. The name is nice enough to over ride that.

I really like it, although I might be biased as I know a Nina I really like! I would say it's unusual now.

I thought it was a nickname. I know a Corinne who goes by Nina. It's very nice.

It's lovely. Easy to spell, sufficiently unusual but still 'proper', everyone knows how to pronounce it and the meanings you list are lovely too. Can't think of a single downside.

Absolutely love it... although biased as DD 3 is Nina (she's 4) and it's my most favourite name of my 4 children. DH chose it as it has a meaning of the littlest girl, which is fab for us as she has 2 big sisters, luckily DC4 is a boy!

Not that keen... so sorry. Sad To me, it's a bit of an airhead name. Even the Abba lyrics were pretty inane.

I don't like it personally. I find it a bit dated as I knew several at school in the 90s. I also just don't really like the sound of it. It's a bit sireny or like the noise someone might make if they honked your nose (in my head anyway).

I went to school with a Nina. Everyone used to follow her in between classes shouting ,Nee nor nee nor, fire engine style.

Do sirens even go "new-naw" anymore? Aren't they more "woooo-waaaaa"? I just wonder whether that would be an association kids nowadays make. I don't think it worries me too much as some kids will be teased, some won't, I'm not sure you can plan to avoid it.

I am more worried about the dated comments. To be it's timeless but do others see it as 80s or 90s?

I also wonder how well it does with our other names. DS is Ivan known as Ivo and DD is Rosa. What do people think?

My daughter is two and yells "nee naw" they every emergency services vehicle we see! It isn't an accurate impression, granted Grin.

That's not to say I think you shouldn't use the name for that reason btw, I'm just answering your question.

When I saw the title of the thread I thought it was about Nina and the Neurons so that was my association (not necessarily positive or negative particularly, just that's what sprang to mind).
