I do like Isobel but as you say it's really popular, I think that might put me off.

Matilda is sweet but I love Imogen best, that was on our short list.

How do you feel about the likely shortenings so Izzy, Tilly and Immy?

averythinline · 11/02/2017 11:13

Isobel nice but v popular know 2 izzies and 1 bel (think only chosen as so many izzies)

Like Imogen but not so keen on Immy .....Matilda favourite of 3 as like Tilly although I also know a 'tilda and a Mattie so slightly more scope for nn :)

averythinline · 11/02/2017 11:19

Suggestions; Martha, Alice, Elizabeth ?

InfinityPlusOne · 11/02/2017 11:21

They are all nice but my favourite is Imogen.

CheeseCakeSunflowers · 11/02/2017 11:21

I like Isobel and Matilda, not so keen on Imogen. Suggestion Annabel.

Nospringflower · 11/02/2017 11:28

Not keen on Isobel or Imogen. Matilda is nice.

PaperdollCartoon · 11/02/2017 11:29

Isobel/Izzy in general is way over used right now.
I like Imogen best and Matilda is also nice (though the shortening Tilly isn't)

Isobel or Imogen are much nicer.

I like Isobel. I don't like Imogen, it just doesn't sound pretty to me. I know loads of Matilda's and they are all called Tilly, which I hate.

MrsNuckyThompson · 11/02/2017 16:12

I love Imogen and wanted it but DH really not keen. Isobel done to death I think as was Matilda a few years ago although it is a pretty name.

AnnetteKertan · 11/02/2017 16:13

The spelling of Isobel isn't actually that common. Isabelle/Isabel are more popular.

Imogen and Matilda are also pretty popular.

If you like these then you might like

Tabitha
Olivia
Florence
Lucy
Rosie

  1. Matilda (so cute and like Mattie and Tilda)
  2. Imogen
  3. Isobel

They're all lovely names. I know a few Imogens and Matildas, but seem to meet hundreds of little Isobel / Isabelle / Isabellas where I live. It depends how much that bothers you and also how popular the name is where you live.

BertrandRussell · 11/02/2017 16:33

I love Imogen. Ds has a friend who shortens it to Imo, which I also like.

jinglebellmel · 11/02/2017 19:36

Thanks for all of your opinions and suggestions, lots to look through.

Love Martha and Tabitha but dh isn't keen.

I agree about Isobel, lovely name and in its self isn't too popular, but once you add up all the variants I think there will be lots of little 'izzies' about. I don't mind a reasonably popular name, but think this one might be a little too popular for me.

Imogen, I love, but not so keen on the shortenings.

Matilda also love, but not keen on Tilly - think I'd use Mattie as a shortening.

Didn't realise Matilda had been so popular recently, I only know of one, but perhaps I don't know the right age group of children to have noticed it.

All nice names.
Isobel and variants are very popular and have been for a while. Isault? Mirabel?
Matilda Lovely, similar are maybe Jemima or Tabitha
Imogen I know 5 Imogen's stangly so must be popular at the moment. Megan always seems similar.

SuperBeagle · 11/02/2017 19:59

I love Matilda. With the nickname Mattie.

Imogen is nice. I like Immy more than I like Imogen though. Blush

I don't like Isobel.

Chocolatecake12 · 11/02/2017 20:34

Imogen is pretty as is Matilda.
How about jemima?

AdaColeman · 11/02/2017 20:37

Isobel is far too popular, Matilda and Imogen are lovely but Imogen is my favourite by a long way.

HeteronormativeHaybales · 11/02/2017 22:47

I like them all. Imogen is becoming pretty popular and I think will date more than the others. Isobel is less popular than Isabelle/Isabella and a very pretty spelling. Matilda is my favourite of the three - pretty but strong, very international, has a fab meaning, lots of potential shortenings (Tilda being my favourite).

BertrandRussell · 12/02/2017 09:10

Matilda is more popular than Imogen and on an upward trend!

Mind you, they are both in the "1 in 250-300" bracket. So one per primary schoolish.
