We are both lovers of the sea and will be moving back to Cornwall soon. We are thinking about girls names with Cornish link or sea link. Though I'm also really fond of Xanthe which has no links to anything but I love it :) thoughts please on;

Elowen (I would pronounce El-OW- en
Lowenna
Lamorna
Rozenwyn
Morgelyn
Cordelia (Cordie)

Oops, I meant Gwylan not Gwennol

MikeUniformMike · 04/02/2017 14:46

Lizard

Letseatgrandma · 04/02/2017 14:47

I knew sisters called Ocean and Ivory!

GimbleInTheWabe · 04/02/2017 14:49

How about Aurora? I know it had nothing to do with the sea or ocean (it means dawn I think) but it has ocean-y feel to it I think! Or Aurelia.

HanarCantWearSweaters · 04/02/2017 14:57

I was named for my father's love of the sea; Morgana Wink
Means dweller of the sea, although my parents described it as daughter of the sea. Haven't met another one as of yet, and his love has become mine so if quite fits.

HanarCantWearSweaters · 04/02/2017 14:58

Also, I love Rozenwyn; not a name I've heard before but that is one cool name.
Cordelia/Cordie is lovely and I know a toddler with that name and nickname combination. She also has Delie too.

Foldedtshirt · 04/02/2017 15:01

What about Stella? As in Stella Maris, star of the sea.

TroysMammy · 04/02/2017 15:04

Sandy.

SnowWhite33 · 04/02/2017 15:06

How about Lorelei/Loreley (a siren in an old legend)

From your list i like Elowen, Lowenna and Cordelia. Not keen on girls names ending 'yn'

IsadoraQuagmire · 04/02/2017 15:51

Thalassa (Greek goddess of the sea)

Pleasemrstweedie · 04/02/2017 15:58

Maris?

Bluntness100 · 04/02/2017 16:01

I like maya,

Stella means star as a stand alone word.

reuset · 04/02/2017 16:42

I wasn't too far out with Iolanthe

You can also have Ianthe in that case. Lots of names beginning 'mer' or 'mur' etc can be sea connected, but it's not a universal rule by any means.

So Muriel.

Sandy is best though. Grin

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 04/02/2017 17:00

Really like Lowenna and Loveday.
Shellene.

BikeRunSki · 04/02/2017 17:03

Isla
Iona
Skye

Ariel?
Ariella? Currently trying to convince DH to add this to names for our future daughter even tho he hasn't agreed to more babies haha

Chatelherault · 04/02/2017 17:05

Morwena
Oceana

SaucyDough · 04/02/2017 17:07

Marine (very French name)

Frankiefarr · 04/02/2017 17:25

Thanks everyone for all the fab suggestions. Lots to think about.

Though I think we might give Whelk a miss. May be we will call the dog that 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Sophronia · 05/02/2017 01:03

Marisol
Zennor (I know a Cornish Zennor Rose)
Bryher
Mawgan
Mylor
Merryn
Kayna
Kenna
Lamorna
Kensa
Endellion
Asherah
Meraud
Marina
Mirren
Nerissa
Tallulah

Elbi · 05/02/2017 09:42

I like Elowen but took it off our list as randomly couldn't get over it sounding like L.O.N! Meriel for 'bright sea' is lovely and I think even the shortening Meri means sea in Latin...? Another Cornish one I like is Anella, meaning breathe. Nell for short!

AnneOfCleavage · 05/02/2017 11:55

I know a girl with a beautiful Cornish name: Coritye
Pronounced Coh-rit-tee
No idea of meaning but I think it's beautiful and have never come across another.

WitchesCauldron · 05/02/2017 15:20

Didn't the Cameron's name their daughter Endellion after a village in Cornwall? I like Marnie too.
