I can't even sleep properly Sad he's our PFB, so I just hate it when I mess up.

His name is Greyson (we assumed Grey would be his NN?)

Oh no, he gets 'Greys' (pronounced exactly like Grace). I know it's probably a very minor thing, but I feel like I've messed up massively. People do assume his name is Grace because of how many people use Greys. I'm sure in different accents it sounds different to Grace, but where we are they sound exactly the same.

I'm so fed up. I know it's silly but I really can't help it.

Every time I meant!

Pipilangstrumpf · 02/02/2017 08:17

Greyson is great. Just introduce him as Greyson. Names don't need to shortened!

Greyson is lovely but something about it would make me say Greys instead of Grey if i was shortening it (might be an accent thing). However, if I was corrected then I would call him Grey. Just be firm in correcting people. My BIL is Andrew and has never wanted to be Andy or Drew so just corrects anyone who calls him that, it's fine.

As a side note, I know two people who go by 'Grey' but both are actually called Graham. Not sure if that bothers you as others might think that is what Greyson is called?

2014newme · 02/02/2017 09:47

Who calls him greys? presumably other adults so just tell them we prefer grayson or grey.
I can't say I am a fan of the name grey =dull or 50 shades of. Could you change it?

2014newme · 02/02/2017 09:47

Yes graham would work better.

steppemum · 02/02/2017 09:47

Just repeat. If you like, make a joke to point out why "Oh not Greys, goodness that sounds like Grace. No his nn is Grey"

Who is using Greys? If it is family members, then explain to them why and be firm.

KlingybunFistelvase · 02/02/2017 10:08

Grayson is lovely! Introduce him as Grey or Sonny and correct people who call him Greys. Flowers

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 02/02/2017 10:13

Very nice name OP, and one he can grow with.
Don't worry about other people, they either shorten a name, or lengthen it.
I think Greyson is fabby ! 😃

Scattymere · 02/02/2017 10:14

For what its worth I think its a great name OP. The more you build something up, the more you overthink it and get paranoid about it. Any name said and thought about constantly would start to sound weird/wrong, just push those thoughts away and firmly tell people its Grey.

2014newme · 02/02/2017 11:08

Because of Grayson Perry dressing as a woman and being the most well known example of the name it does have quite effeminate connotations anyway.
You can't control the nicknames people have they develop over time I am always surprised when people on Mn say the Nn their children will have, you can't control the playground. You may want Maddison to be maddie but she may be Mads at school.
Similarly gray may be greys at school or sonny.

2014newme so what? What's wrong with feminine? Hmm

2014newme · 02/02/2017 13:53

Nothing. Did I say there was? Op dislikes her son being called greys because it sounds like a girls name grace.

AntiHop · 02/02/2017 13:55

What about just calling him G?

PollytheDolly · 02/02/2017 13:59

What a fabulous name! Love it!

My late favourite uncles middle name was meannee. If I had another child (I won't, too old 😬) I'd use it. It would be a nightmare wouldn't it but I love so bugger it, they'll have to learn.

Grace111 · 02/02/2017 14:10

Just insiste he's to be called greyson.
Can I ask what PBF is?

Grace111 · 02/02/2017 14:11

Sorry PFB?

KlingybunFistelvase · 02/02/2017 14:16

Pfb = precious first born

One of my favorite boys' names, a friend used it and think it's adorable and suits her DS so much! Agree correct the pronunciation and stick to it and they will learn how to say it. It's a great name 😊

NarkyMcDinkyChops · 02/02/2017 16:08

It would be a nightmare wouldn't it but I love so bugger it, they'll have to learn

It would be a nightmare for your kid, but as long as you had a laugh about it who cares if they have to carry an awful name through life?

Aquamarine1029 · 05/02/2017 14:16

All you have to do is correct people. I really think you are blowing this WAY out of proportion.

VocalDuck · 05/02/2017 14:19

Both Grey and Greyson are fine names. Anyone who says Grays (why would they?) or anything else just needs to be corrected each and every time.

greeeen · 05/02/2017 14:25

Agree with PPs saying just correct every single time. I also don't know who all these people are that would default to greys, wouldn't occur to me as an option for a nn, weirdos!
