Thoughts on the name Gilbert? for baby boy? Smile

I'm another Gilbert Blythe fan (he died a few years ago!!) and also my GGF was a Gilbert, but I'm not sure I would personally use it. I think it's one that could grow on me.

JudgeJudySheidlin · 03/02/2017 01:31

YES!
Sorry to shout but I need to be heard over the 'no' crowd. It's a great name & you won't find that many about. If you love it, use it.

OttoTheOnly · 03/02/2017 05:19

Love it, but am biased as I have one.
He's Gil or Gilly most of the time.

MiniMaxi · 03/02/2017 05:25

I like it! Gil, Gib or Bertie for short Smile

PetalMettle · 03/02/2017 05:30

I like it and all the abbreviations. Not sure why it's attracting such ire.

MrsTerryPratchett · 03/02/2017 05:46

I like Gil and knew a lovely one at school. Not Gilbert though.

mumsnit · 03/02/2017 09:44

Fab name and Gil is a very cool nn.

I'm with Petal and am really surprised at the negative comments - it's a great name and I thought Gilbert Blythe would have fond memories for us all Blush

shaggedthruahedgebackwards · 03/02/2017 09:51

I love it and think Gil is a great shortening too

WhatKatyDidnt · 03/02/2017 10:05

I'm surprised by all the hate... good strong name and love Gil or Bill.

Nonameyet1 · 03/02/2017 11:24

Love Gilly or Gil, but Gilbert is quite a strong name for a baby.

EvaWild · 03/02/2017 11:25

Kinda off-sounding :)

Jojo13 · 03/02/2017 13:05

Yay

McNursey · 03/02/2017 13:10

My husband has a cousin called Gilbert. They don't live in the UK.
He gets called Gigi.

girlandboy · 03/02/2017 13:26

A resounding no from me. But like a pp it means a ginormous bogey where I am! "Oh my god, did you see the great big Gilbert sticking out his nose!" So no!!

dogdinner · 03/02/2017 13:27

I love it!

BelafonteRavenclaw · 03/02/2017 13:29

I teach a Gilbert. He uses Gil as a nn. It suits him.

minisausage · 03/02/2017 13:30

I know one under 2. Don't like
