What do you think of the name Hallie?

What do you think of the name Hallie? Do you think it is a pretty name? I really love it but after looking at so many girls names they are all blending into one now!

Do you think it would be viewed negatively in any way?

Thanks in advance! :)

As cutesy names go it's quite nice.

GrumpySausage · 19/02/2017 00:10

I know a hallie but spelt Hali. Lovely girl and name.

SandrasAnnoyingFriend · 19/02/2017 00:11

It sounds really naff to me

pillowcase6 · 19/02/2017 01:29

I'd assumed you'd misspelled Halle.

I assumed Halle was made up. Is it an established name? It doesn't really make phonetic sense, though if it comes from some particular language or context then that would change my mind. Why pronounce the 'e' as though it's a 'y'?

Hallie makes much better sense to me, though it's a sort of nickname name. I think it's quite nice! I know one Australian Hallie who's about 12.

I love it! It does me remind me of Parent Trap and I would use it on that basis alone Blush

ElvenMoonwings · 19/02/2017 17:00

It reminds me of Halia, the Greek nymph and the Greek word meaning of the sea. I don't like the sound, I'm sorry.

SaltedCaramelEverything · 19/02/2017 18:29

Really like it. Callie is cute too

BasicBetty · 20/02/2017 11:50

Not keen, sorry!

I like it. Possibly might become popular because of the Big Bang Theory connection if that matters to you.

Coulibri · 20/02/2017 19:23

There's a rather cool character in a Barbara Kingsolver novel called Halimeda, known as Hallie. She's six foot one, brilliant free-spirited and beautiful, but ends up dead while fighting injustice in Nicaragua.

AbernathysFringe · 20/02/2017 23:11

I like it. Isn't it the little girl in the Christmas movie with Leslie Nielson. Is Halle any more of a valid, ie. traditional spelling for it? Isn't that just because there's a famous one? Before hearing about Berry, I would have pronounced Halle as Hall or Hal. Your spelling is clearer.

I don't get the love for it. I just think of halitosis.

littleoldladywho · 20/02/2017 23:53

I like it (spelt correctly, not Hallie) but would assume you had jumped on the TBBT bandwagon. I bet there are going to be loads of them this year.

pillowcase6 · 21/02/2017 02:09

littleoldlady, why is Halle the correct spelling? As a PP said, if it's because of Halle Berry, I don't think hers is any more correct than any other made up or 'twist' name.

"In the case of Halle Berry, a pretty American actress and the first black woman to win a Best Actress Oscar, the name came from the historic Halle Department Store in Cleveland Ohio where she was born. Halle Berry has had the most to do with catapulting the popularity of her name among English-speakers."

Quite happy to be proved wrong.

mum2be2boys · 21/02/2017 03:35

I like it, I think it's pretty.

It did automatically make me think of the comet and the baby in big bang theory show, but neither would be enough to put me off using it.

littleoldladywho · 21/02/2017 04:26

Quite right pillowcase - Hallie is as correct as Mikayla, McKayla, Mychaela and any other spelling that parents choose to use which deviate from a perceived norm. But as is usual on baby names threads, I was expressing my own personal opinion. No reason why the op couldn't use Hallie of course. But I would assume it to either have been a parental choice to use a 'unique' spelling, or that they had just heard it in passing (from either the actress or the tv show) and mis-spelled it.
But it is indeed personal choice. In the same way that other variations of Michaela get used - because parents choose to use them. (it makes me wince if I think people have made a mistake - I can't help feeling embarrassed for them - especially in something which is shared as often as a child's name.) For Mikayla, I would assume a unique spelling. For Hallie I would assume they have made a mistake. Neither may be true, but the op asked for any negative associations. My negative point was 'spelling mistake?'
You'll note I didn't give the 'correct' spelling at all - as the actress and the comet are spelled differently (neither of them Hallie) I assume the parents would want to go with whatever their inspiration was.
No laws for naming babies though. And no laws for expressing an opinion on a thread where opinions are sought?
I was just expressing two thoughts on the name - I would assume they had got it from Big Bang, and I would assume it was a spelling mistake. Neither have to be true for me to Make the assumptions, as they are about me, not the parents... I don't particularly care what the naming conventions of children called Halle/ Hallie/ Halley/ Haley have been since the beginning of time. And neither will anyone else who the proud new parents introduce to their darling daughter. A challenge to prove you wrong is a bit bonkers Grin
Offering an alternative opinion is, erm, what the thread is for, not to fight to the death over the one true spelling of a baby name.
My point still stands though. I (as in me) would assume you either chose an alternative spelling, or you got it wrong. It doesn't matter whether those facts are true. At all. That's just what a whole raft of people will think. Whether 'what people will think' matters to you as a parent is a personal thing.
(I'd be mortified lol. And I've read plenty of baby name threads where it genuinely has been a spelling mistake and the op has been relieved that someone pointed it out on me before it made it to the birth certificate).

My Halle is 11 now, she always gets compliments on her name. I think it's lovely although I haven't come across it spelled as Hallie.

accendo · 21/02/2017 04:31

Is there a Halle in the TBBT? I don't watch it, I'm off to google.

GinIsIn · 21/02/2017 04:46

It sounds a bit dated and American to me too - sorry!

PhoebeGetsIt · 21/02/2017 04:56

I love the name. I actually know a 3 year old Hallie and shes amazing.

reuset · 21/02/2017 10:57

That's interesting, pillowcase! Good story and background for the actress using the name.

Hallé Orchestra comes up first in a google search. I don't think anybody cares but it seems to be from a surname, or like Hal for Henry, a rendering, short form of Henrietta and similar names. Quite modern usage. There are worse names I think, and it's somehow preferable to Hayley, in my own opinion.

Something I didn't know is that is not uncommon at all. Hallie is just slightly the more popular spelling, too. Both just outside top 200 names. Combined spelling would be more popular...obviously.

OvariesBeforeBrovaries · 21/02/2017 19:26

I love it! We'd consider it for future DDs but DD1 is known as Callie so too rhymey :( beautiful!

HandsDontDoDishes · 21/02/2017 19:27
