I like it...but I'm afraid I think immediately of the car.

NewPantsforaNewYear · 31/01/2017 22:34

Sienna as an alternative? Not keen on Sierra.

GreatScot8 · 31/01/2017 22:35

I'm not a fan.

It sounds like the slightest variation on Sarah when I say it aloud. I prefer Sarah.

I also like Sienna.

Londonbum · 31/01/2017 22:36

I love it!

Enidblyton1 · 31/01/2017 22:36

Think I prefer Cortina

namesstress2323 · 31/01/2017 22:38

Wait can you explain? are you talking about the phone thing, whats the connection to Sierra

the car

HollywoodStunt · 31/01/2017 22:40

I don't like commenting on name threads because each to their own and you can never please everyone, but this is dated because of the automatic association with an 80s car

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 31/01/2017 22:40

Car I'm afraid.

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 31/01/2017 22:44

It's the name of a car

Mungobungo · 31/01/2017 22:44

My BIL had several Ford Sierras back in the day. He was the 80's/early 90's version of a Mondeo Man.

And because of that, it's too much of a car connotation for me and not long enough ago to have been forgotten.

Sienna is far prettier.

Loyly · 31/01/2017 22:45

I also think of the Ford Sierra so, no, I don't like it.

JournosAreLazy · 31/01/2017 22:45

Car.

Sienna is better.

EatsShitAndLeaves · 31/01/2017 22:46

As long as you are ok with her being nicknamed "Ford" by anyone over 40.....

The etymology is "jagged mountain range" or "Saw" from the Latin Serra.

Not really convinced why this appeals tbh.

WhiskyTangoFoxtrot · 31/01/2017 22:49

Perhaps unsurprisingly, I'd think of the NATO alphabet.

Then you could have siblings India, Juliet, Mike, Oscar and Romeo

Mottlemoth · 31/01/2017 22:51

Ford had a model called the Sierra for years. Not made anymore but anyone in their 30s or older will immediately think of a mid range saloon car.

EatsShitAndLeaves · 31/01/2017 22:51

You could get away with Mercedes though....given the name came before the brand Grin

Mercedes-Benz got its name from founder Carl Benz. The word “Mercedes” comes from the 10-year-old daughter of a car buyer Emil Jellinek. He was an early customer of the Gottlieb Daimler and ordered a custom-built car that he named after his daughter, Mercedes.

WhiskyTangoFoxtrot · 31/01/2017 22:52

And on the same theme, Tango Sierra means Tough Shit (bit niche, as it's military and possibly emergency services slang, but not that uncommon to know, so thought it might be worth making sure you know)

Gileswithachainsaw · 31/01/2017 22:53

I like it.

But I'm a dollhouse fan.

They were all named alpha echo Sierra Victor etc

AuntieStella · 31/01/2017 22:54

Or Marina (another Ford car, but a more established name, not such a predominant model, and rather longer ago).

More sensibly, how about Sienna or Savannah as names that (to me) have a similar vibe but no auto associations?

TreeTop7 · 31/01/2017 22:56

I think of the car too. It was the salesman's choice, wasn't it

Sienna is lovely.

reuset · 31/01/2017 22:57

Good one, OP Grin

EatsShitAndLeaves · 31/01/2017 22:57

Or Escort....hmmm maybe not Grin

MortalEnemy · 31/01/2017 22:57

It's the topographic/mountain range association for me. I suppose I see it as the equivalent of calling your offspring 'Tundra' or 'upland bog'.

GlacindaTheTroll · 31/01/2017 22:59

If you go on to have a boy, you could have Ford Prefect?

(then Arthur, Trillian, Zaphod and Marvin)
