Just a rant really.

I called my 11 week old DD Macy. Every single time someone has asked me her name when I'm out and about EVERYONE repeats it back as Maysie. It is driving me insane. I try and say it very clearly to accentuate that it's a C not an S. My DH's parents (who haven't met DD yet) sent a Christmas present with the name Maysie on it. I have seriously contemplated changing her name. I spent ages deliberating over names and didn't want something boring now something too out there. I really didn't consider that people would constantly get it wrong Sad

Macy is a lovely name! Nicer than Maisie imo. Congratulations, stick to your choice and make sure you firmly (politely! 😉) correct people until it sticks!

Personalised pram toy?

picklemepopcorn · 30/01/2017 18:32

Try saying it May C for a while. That may help.

cupofteatime · 30/01/2017 18:36

Thanks Zippy! I think it's much nicer than Maisie too! I feel bad that I've saddled her for the rest of her life with people mistaking her name for something else. DH is adamant we aren't changing it and to be honest I don't want to either.

Yes Personalised pram toy might be the way forward thank you!

Good idea pickle. That does make it sound better. I'll try that next time and see what happens!

Don't change it. I knew a lovely Macy so this name always makes me smile. Just grit your teeth and repeat "it's MACY". Or you could say in response to 'what's her name?' with, "Macy, like Macy Gray."

picklemepopcorn · 30/01/2017 18:42

I misheard Daphne as Stephanie over the phone. It won't take long for people to get it.

NiktheGreek · 30/01/2017 18:44

Don't change it. My niece is called Macy and never been a problem. People will soon get used to it.

KlingybunFistelvase · 30/01/2017 19:03

"Macy, like Macy Gray" as pp suggested would work. I bloody love Macy Gray too. It's a lovely name! Smile

GreatScot8 · 30/01/2017 19:29

Macy is lovely. Much nicer than Maisie (where Maisy Mouse is the only thing that comes to mind).

Yep, tell people she's Macy, like Macy Gray. Smile

Isadora2007 · 30/01/2017 19:31

Just say rhymes with racy... maybe it's an accent thing as the two names sound very different in my Scottish accent... do a fake scots accent when introducing her!?!

SirNiallDementia · 30/01/2017 19:43

Don't change her name, it's lovely and people will get used to it.

There's a Macy in my school and noone ever calls her Maisy !

ineedamoreadultieradult · 30/01/2017 19:47

I would agree with practicing saying May C and see if people start to hear it correctly sometimes when you speak things sound different to other people than how you hear them in your head.

cupofteatime · 30/01/2017 20:42

Ah thanks everyone! I will definitely try saying it May C from now on and use the Macy Gray reference!

Dont change it! My ds2 is called Flynn and I always get Glynn repeated back to me!! But now i say as in Errol flynn or flynn rider dependant on age of person and that seems to sort it. If you love the name ypu just have to be firm as everyone has said!! X
