Dd1 due in 5 weeks.
Shortlist is
Vita
Elinor (Nell)
Beatrix (Bea or Trixie)
Estella (Tess)
Middle names will be Anwen Rose.
I also love love love Polly but it rhymes with my husband's name so he is vetoing. I wish he'd change his mind.
Which is your favourite? Be honest I can take it!

I am in general at the moment as he is in disgrace over name vetoing and generally because I am pregnant and grumpy!!

OP,

This may not appeal to you whatsoever, but I just thought it might be a way round your dilemma (well, sort of).

Like you, I love Polly as a standalone name.

However, if your DH's adamant he doesn't want the Polly/ Olly rhyme within the family, might he compromise if her Birth Certificate 'official' name was something else, with (in his eyes only a) nickname Polly? Then you can call her that as often as you want, but he can use the other one if point blank refusing to budge you can't persuade him/ wear him down .
I know Polly is 'supposed' to be the NN for Mary, but there's no law Thou Shalt Only Stick To So-Called Rules, surely. Paola/ Paloma/ Pollyanna/ whatever else you prefer instead?

I guess you'd have mentioned if you already had a son/ sons? I'm assuming he worries about situations where you're referred to as a whole family? i.e. "Happy Christmas, love from Wineapotamus, Olly and Polly" (in which case, "love from Olly, Wineapotamus and Polly" sounds fine anyway. Even more so, if older brother/ brothers are sandwiched between, too, though I guess you'd have mentioned if you already had a son/ sons? ).

Feel free to ignore what is probably an overcomplicated load of old nonsense, which might lead to major irritation and resentment from both sides! And calm serenity in late pregnancy is better all round.

Though Polly is lovely, Vita Anwen Rose still gets my vote Smile Good luck for your DD's birth...

Stonewash · 27/01/2017 00:18

I like Elinor and Estella.

Jooni · 27/01/2017 08:45

Vita, Elinor or Beatrix for me. All gorgeous names. I like Tess but Estella feels a bit fussy. How about Tessa?

Polly is lovely too but I wouldn't like my child to have a name which rhymed with mine either. In a similar vein, how about Mamie, Effie, Peggy, Pippa, Marnie, Kitty...?

pilates · 27/01/2017 08:51

Estella

CheerfulMuddler · 27/01/2017 15:11

Beatrix gets my vote.

But I suspect it'll all become clearer when you meet her. We had a shortlist of four and I was sure he was going to be A. But then we met him and he turned out to be B.

Probably you'll meet her and either it'll be really obvious to your DH that she just IS a Polly. Or you'll look at her serious little face and know she has to be a Vita. Or she won't look like any of your names and you'll end up calling her Diana.

Good luck, anyway. They're all great names, and so are the middle names.

Willialwaysbelookeddownon · 27/01/2017 16:25

Could you not just have Nell on its own? I know a few 'just' Nell's.
Not a fan of Elinor and don't like that spelling either.
The middles names on the other hand, are gorgeous!
I like Beatrix (Bea) too.

EverythingEverywhere1234 · 27/01/2017 16:32

I like Eleanor, and Nell is really lovely.
Anwen Rose is beautiful.

wineapotamus · 27/01/2017 16:36

I was keen on the elinor spelling as it's the Welsh version and I'm of Welsh extraction. Also it's the Jane Austen one and I like the literary connection. But I think it would get Nell mostly.
I'm hoping you're right, that we look at her little face and just know, but I'm worried we won't!
I do have a son, so the Christmas cards would be from wine, Olly, boy wine and Polly, so I don't think it would be too weird but he says he doesn't like it as much as vita which is his top fave.
I love the other suggestions too, kitty is my dream name along with Polly but it's too close to my name! I'd not mind but dh says it's not as good as the final four.
Thanks for the lovely comments about the middle names. I'd use Anwen as first name with Annie for short in a flash, but Anwen doesn't work with our surname!
Good grief!

Love Vita. Elegant and unexpected.

finova · 28/01/2017 18:26

Estella

then Elinor

reuset · 28/01/2017 20:24

Beatrix or Estella

MrsMeeseeks · 29/01/2017 11:46

Vita and Estella are both really lovely.

justanotheryoungmother · 29/01/2017 12:02

Estella Smile

Pemba · 29/01/2017 13:08

Estella is gorgeous, and I like Elinor with the nickname Nell a lot too. Not so keen on the other two.

Anwen Rose are lovely middle names.

Bogburglar75 · 29/01/2017 13:42

As a fan of Sense and Sensibility could I speak up for Elinor? Beautiful name and beautiful spelling with a perfectly good pedigree in literature and language.

DD would probably have been Elinor if DH and I could have agreed on the respective merits of that and Helena Grin.
Elinor Anwen Rose is beautiful.

GeekyWombat · 29/01/2017 13:45

I love Beatrix. DD would have been called that if I'd had my way. Really beautiful name.

GatoradeMeBitch · 29/01/2017 13:52

Vita makes me think of some kind of margarine spread...

I like Estella.

Redpramlady · 29/01/2017 15:52

Not helpful at all but....

Polly anwen rose is beautiful!!

Enkopkaffetak · 29/01/2017 15:54

I prefer Estella out of the choices. Not keen on Polly it just reminds me of a parrot (odd really as I have known 2 very nice Polly's)

I also agree with your dh rhyming is not good.

Elbi · 29/01/2017 16:00

All gorgeous names. Especially like Vita but don't think you could go wrong with any of them. Elinor will likely be misspelt often but is lovely all the same. If you like Kitty but can't use it, there's Kitta...? Think it means North.

Flappergirl86 · 29/01/2017 16:08

Nell! I'm biased because that's my name but people always tell me it's lovely Wink

Redpramlady · 29/01/2017 16:22

Pollyanna?

indigo13 · 31/01/2017 08:55

Big vote for Estella from me, and of course you can use tess as a nn. Agree that Vita sounds like a brand or ryvita but that doesn't really matter if you love it. Eleanor/Elinor is over used now and so is Beatrix in my experience

EvaWild · 31/01/2017 09:22

Estella or Elinor sound beautiful with middle names so I vote either of them :)
