Will Rosalind always become Roz?

I love the name Rosalind and it's on my list for dd2. But I hate the shortened Roz. Do you think it's inevitable that she would become Roz? Is it ever possible to encourage a less obvious nickname (like Rosie maybe) and have it stick?

Or Rosa? I think if you started the nn at home you'd stand a good chance of it sticking!

rainbowrd · 19/01/2017 20:41

My name is actually Rosie and I get called Roz so you may be fighting a losing battle Grin

Rainbow728 · 19/01/2017 20:53

Lindy is a cute nn for Rosalind (although the Rosalind I know is know as Rox)

VaginaDentata · 19/01/2017 20:53

I admit, I can think of three adult Rosalinds I know, and every one is 'Roz'. Presumably because more people pronounce it ROZZ-alind than ROSE-alind.

rollonthesummer · 19/01/2017 20:55

Rosie?

Nonameyet1 · 19/01/2017 20:57

Think she'll be a Roz! Gorgeous name though.

ChadSexington · 19/01/2017 20:57

I know a Rosalind who is known as Rosie and hates Roz.

Barefootcontessa84 · 19/01/2017 21:22

I know a Rosalind who has always just been Rosalind! But I think that the 'risk' is always there.

bijouxxx · 19/01/2017 21:24

My Rosalind is a Roz I'm afraid which I tried to steer her against as I didn't like it either at first. We always used the nn Rosie but once she was in high school Roz became more common, luckily it's grown on me now!

Badgoushk · 19/01/2017 21:25

My godmother is one and gets called Roz and Rozzy.

EsmesBees · 19/01/2017 21:26

Thanks all. Actually love Rosa and Lindy. But I hate Roz so much I'm not sure it's worth the risk. Naming children is so tricky!

I don't think it's inevitable. It's up to you to set the parameters of what is acceptable. I know a Victoria who point blank refuses to ever be a Vicky. She is Victoria. Not in a snooty way, she is lovely - she is just not and won't ever be a Vicky.

MikeUniformMike · 19/01/2017 21:46

I know a Rosalind, known as Rose. Both lovely names. I also know a couple of really nice Ros/Roz's, both Roseanne.

Shurelyshomemistake · 19/01/2017 21:50

I know a rosalind and she is either just rosalind, or rozzy.

RosieBdy · 19/01/2017 22:06

I know a Rosalind and she's always been known as Lin...

Pluto30 · 20/01/2017 03:49

I know two and both are Roz.

Jooni · 20/01/2017 18:04

I know a Rosalind and she is always Rosie, never heard anyone try to call her Roz.

Roz feels like the nickname of an older person; I can't see people calling a little one Roz. Similarly, I can imagine people calling a little Susannah Susie or Annie, but not Suze as it feels too grown-up/mum namey, if that makes sense.

SerialReJoiner · 20/01/2017 18:17

We wanted a Rose name for DD, but I had to strike Rosalind off the list because I didnt like Roz nn. It seems an inevitable shortening to me.

Joeybee · 22/01/2017 23:38

I'd have thought she'd end up being called Rosie rather than Roz.
