What do you think about Kitto for a boy, nn Kit? It's a Cornish name, (we live in Cornwall) but interested to see what non Cornish people think?

I like it. I'm in London and never heard of the name before, but it's easy to pronounce and spell, and kit is a cool nickname.

Nonameyet1 · 17/01/2017 18:54

Really like Kit, not sure about Kitto, haven't heard of it before, have said it out loud a few times to see how it sounds, but not sure.

florascotianew · 17/01/2017 18:57

Have only come across Kitto as a surname. Am not a fan of surnames as first names, though many people would disagree, of course.

Sophronia · 17/01/2017 19:06

I'd heard of it as my mum's side of the family are Cornish. I quite like it.

Dazzalm · 17/01/2017 19:11

It's a surname for me (I'm Cornish) - my gran's maiden name in fact.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 17/01/2017 19:20

Surname for me as well, Mrs Kitto was a (lovely) dinner lady at my primary school. Er, 30 years ago Blush

MrsMeggles · 17/01/2017 19:55

Hmm.. yes veering towards too surname sounding too. I love Kit but unsure if 'enough' for a first name and not sure about Christopher as wouldn't want nn Chris evolving later...

I sounds like kiddo to me, as in "kiddos".

I like Kit though.

AlwaysTheWinner · 17/01/2017 20:18

I love it, I didn't know it was a 'proper' name. A small Kitty I know is nicknamed Kitto, and that's the only time I have heard it.

YippieKayakOtherBuckets · 17/01/2017 20:27

If they ever spend any time in America, the pronunciation will be indistinguishable from 'kiddo'...

Jooni · 17/01/2017 20:54

I love it

Grufallosfriend · 17/01/2017 22:06

Kitto is great. Masculine and cool.

However, I don't like Kit, it's too close to Kitty or sports kit etc.

rainbow99 · 17/01/2017 22:48

Never heard of Kitto and I don't like it I'm afraid, I do like Kit though. My first thought was ditto, then kitty

NumberOneTricky · 18/01/2017 00:17

I'd never heard of it before but guessed it would be Cornish. Names ending in o are quite trendy at the moment aren't they? And they can be quite posh like Ivo, Hugo, Orlando. Kitto has that same posh boy vibe.

Yoarchie · 18/01/2017 00:20

Googling kitto gives you a construction company.

Personally I think it is odd and would be mistaken for kitty

Passmethecrisps · 18/01/2017 00:20

I know a Kytto which I think came from the Cornish. Lovely

QuestionableMouse · 18/01/2017 00:23

I'm not keen on it. If I overhead you talking about kitto I'd think you meant your cat.

mrspod89 · 18/01/2017 00:25

Personally I'd have Christopher on birth certificate then nickname Kit from day one so he's introduced as Kit or Kitto and then that's his "name" but officially Christopher. I really love the name Kit but I do think the full name should be on the BC (my opinion)

sycamore54321 · 18/01/2017 00:34

I am entirely unfamiliar with Cornish culture and out of that context, I think it's horrible. It looks like a typo and sounds like a childish mispronunciation. If however someone explained its cultural origins, I'd be less harsh on it but without knowing them, it does not look or sound like a 'real' name to me.

AutumnalLeaves38 · 18/01/2017 01:21

Interesting: my first assumption was that it was probably a Japanese name, rather than Cornish!

I like it.

Snoodleberry · 18/01/2017 01:51

Love it as a name!

Was on our list if we had a boy.

iogo · 18/01/2017 01:53

I had a teacher at school called Mrs Kitto!

I like Kit but not keen on Kitto as a first name.

Stonewash · 19/01/2017 01:22

I think it may be misheard as kitten.

Alisvolatpropiis · 20/01/2017 00:53

Reminds me of the Welsh name Guto (pronounced the same but with a G), I don't dislike Kitto.

AssassinatedBeauty · 20/01/2017 01:04

It makes me think of Kiddo too, but it's not a terrible name.
