I'm not Scottish. Dh isn't Scottish. We don't live in Scotland.
Can we name our son Hamish?

No we had a Hamish at school and he got teased for it

What on Earth for? Confused

I like it but prefer it without the exclamation mark. He will get a lot of 'oh so your family is Scottish?' type comments throughout his life though.

I thought adding punctuation to names was fashionable these days.
Would H'Amish be better?

I'd forget the extraneous punctuation but there's nothing more chic than a silent P.

Phamish.

Some people will think it's pronounced fame-ish but that's the price he'll have to pay for being (p)chic.

If you like it go for it. It's a good solid name unlike many other 'names'.

Nothing wrong with using a Scottish name if you're not Scottish.

My Hamish is handsome, funny and extremely bright. But has never barked.

PollytheDolly · 17/01/2017 01:10

Ooo it's a great name! Love it.

KoalaDownUnder · 17/01/2017 01:17

I love Hamish!

To answer your question, I know many non-Scottish Hamishes here (Australia). Go for it.
