laurapalmer, it is to do with apeasing Mother Earth. burying a dead baby head down in the Earth, and naming all subsequent children nature names was supposed to satisfy mother Earth and persuade her not to claim any more of your children. So I would not use names like ashley, eartha, cley, etc, because of the unhappy origins
