Ava/Eva/Eve overused?

Are these 3 names overused at the moment in your opinion - the last 2 mainly by being similar to Ava? Stuck!

I haven't met any at dd's school but seen a few at work. I picked my dd's name based on the fact there weren't many around and I loved it.

MommyTVFan · 05/01/2017 00:22

Extremely dull boring names

Equivalent of Sharon/ Tracey in 80s
Equivalent of Katy/ Becky in 90s
And Chloe/ Megan 2000s

So ubiquitous I expect a new baby to have one of these names or a variant inc the new Ellie name, elodie

What about Clara or orla they're the similar more 20/teen versions of these names?

The older eve and Evie's of this wave are now around 10 so sounding quite dated already

SleightOfMind · 05/01/2017 00:33

Our 16 year old was called Ava.
Our four year old is called Evie.
Dogs, not daughters Blush.

Not sure I'm helping here, names were chosen by the DC though (age range 4-16).

Myu5ername · 05/01/2017 00:45

I think they're lovely names but so so overused.
In my dd1 toddler group we have an Ava, Eva, Evie and Eve ... 3 out of the 4 mums were friends before they became pregnant and it still baffles me why they all chose such similar names. I also know a lot of older Ava and Eva's ... Around the 10year old mark.

avamiah · 05/01/2017 00:59

Myu5ername
I called my daughter Ava because 7/8 years ago I had never heard of Ava.
I wouldn't say it's boring and overlyused.

avamiah · 05/01/2017 01:07

My mum who is 80 is called Beryl but nobody has ever called her that. Haha
My dad used to call her Bell and my aunty her only sister called her Beb or bell.

Marcipex · 05/01/2017 03:22

I know quite a few, especially Evie. It's a nice name but there are several in every class.

Hellofromtheotherside16 · 05/01/2017 03:48

The problem with those names is that they are so similar people forget or mix them up.

My dd has a similar E name and so does a friend's dd and people pause when they ask about them because they can't remember which is which.

I do the same with two friends who have popular M names.

GinIsIn · 05/01/2017 04:31

My goddaughter is 3. At her nursery there are 2 Avas, an Eva, an Evie, an Ivy, and 2 Izzys.....

Pluto30 · 05/01/2017 05:17

Yes, Ivy also seems to be very popular. I know two under 18mo. Also know two Indies now, and another mother-to-be who is planning to name her DD Indie.

WallisFrizz · 05/01/2017 05:57

I think Ava must have become really popular about 5 years ago as there are 3 in our reception. I also know 3 Evies and one Eva though.

Ohdearducks · 05/01/2017 06:03

My DDs middle name is Ava and I don't any in real life and I work in a child where many children attend and not one Ava.
I find the suggestion by some that one of her names is 'boring' and 'dull' fucking rude and insulting to be frank.

HorseyHorseyTwat · 05/01/2017 06:16

Everyone always insists Eve is overused but it's not even in the top 100 (Evie is) and hasn't been for decades.

WallisFrizz · 05/01/2017 06:39

Don't over react oh dear. It's a thread on baby names, every one is entitled to an opinion. They're not passing judgement on your child.

I expect there are people that find my children's names dull and boring. Doesn't bother me in the slightest.

Ohdearducks · 05/01/2017 06:42

"every one is entitled to an opinion."
Yes me included, that's how I feel about it. You don't have to agree, but don't tell me how to react please.

stumblymonkey · 05/01/2017 06:55

I'm a Sarah from the 80's when Sarah was the number one name for a few years.

I knew one Sarah that I went to school with in a year of 100 children.

Twice in my adult life I've worked in the same team as another Sarah....about two years in total out of 13 years.

Honestly a top three name may be popular but it's not the case that you end up with ten of the same name in one class IME.

I wouldn't worry about it. It's more important that you love the name IMO.

And yes....certain boy's names are very popular and no-one seems to be concerned about that.

Lovemylittlebear · 05/01/2017 07:09

I've got a four year old Evie and I love her name :) but then I like the sound of all of the names Ava, Evie, Eva, Isla etc. I work in schools and nurseries across the country and it is a popular name (but not ridiculously so). There are lots of other names that crop up regularly too (and it depends where you live). I would just call your daughter what you want to :)

megletthesecond · 05/01/2017 07:14

In DD's Y3 class there are two Evie's, an Eva and an Ava. And DS Y5 has just told me he has an Evie in his class.

KERALA1 · 05/01/2017 07:18

This generations Sarah. Most of the girls in dds class are called these names. Terribly confusing!

Plifner · 05/01/2017 07:27

No one seems bothered about 400 million boys called William.

Fwiw I know one Eve, lots of Evies and a few Avas

Hellofromtheotherside16 · 05/01/2017 07:32

Good point about boys' names. I know far more Williams and Jameses across the ages than I do Evies.

KERALA1 · 05/01/2017 07:32

For boys round here is ben. Don't think anyone is "worried" just if you naming a first baby you have little idea of what everyone else is choosing. I nearly named dd Olivia before realising that's what everyone else was choosing that year. Swerved that one - first baby class I attended there were 4.

I have super dull popular name and didn't want that for my dc. Personal choice though don't care what anyone else does.

cornflowerblu · 05/01/2017 07:51

I know a couple of Ava's and no Eve's or Evie's or Eva's they're beautiful names.

Dolwar · 05/01/2017 08:21

It's massively over used where I live and trends to be those from the lower socio-economic demographics. Particularly when hyphenated with May/Mae/Mai

LobsterQuadrille · 05/01/2017 09:33

Very common but I can't see that it matters if you like them: lots of Evies in DD's old school; several Ellies who are younger. They're (to me) the female equivalents of Harry, Jack and Oliver. Maybe with Sophia and Olivia.
