Hi
What do people think of Mickey for a boy?
Its my fav name at the moment but worried it sounds like a bit of a naughty boy name or a bit rough around the edges?!
What do you think of the name?

I don't get such association, though I think Mickey is a bit ... too soft for a boy. At some point, he will grow up and the name will just remain a bit too childish. Can always name him Michael and call him Mickey as nickname.

Michael is a wonderful name, it means " who is like god" who wouldn't want to be called that , but Mickey is a mouse

CatRash · 04/01/2017 13:38

Mickey makes me think Mickey Mouse too I'm afraid. I agree with Navy that Mikey is nicer.

wigglesrock · 04/01/2017 13:42

I think of Mickey as a slang for penis rather than Mickey Mouse.

I love the name Michael, it was very popular when I was growing up and it runs the whole way through my husbands family but I don't like any of its shortenings - most I know don't shorten it at all.

Sophronia · 04/01/2017 13:50

I prefer Michael with Mickey for short.

sonlypuppyfat · 04/01/2017 14:01

Slang for a penis?! Wtf

maitaimojito · 04/01/2017 14:05

I think of Mickey Maguire from Shameless or Mickey Mouse I'm afraid.

I really like Michael but not keen on the shortenings.

TheOptimisticButtercunt · 04/01/2017 14:21

Oh Mickey what a pity you don't understand...

TheCompanyOfCats · 04/01/2017 14:29

Mickey is a bit rough around the edges to me. Michael would give you more options.

Aquamarine1029 · 04/01/2017 14:49

IMO, Mickey is a very weak name for a boy. It would be hard to take a grown man seriously with that name. I have a friend who's given name is Rickey and he absolutely HATES it. He never uses it unless required and goes by Rick.

Vanillamanilla1 · 04/01/2017 14:53

I like it

BikeRunSki · 04/01/2017 14:54

My dad was a Michael always known as Mickey. To be honest, it does not hold much authority or credibility as a "grown up" name. I think the mouse has spoilt it a little, as I know several adult Jamies.

But Michael gives you lots of options, with Mickey as a childhood abbreviation. Mick, Mike etc can evolve (DM called DDad Miguel a lot, although not at all Spanish!)

PotteringAlong · 04/01/2017 14:55

Michael, lovely.

Mickey = mouse, or a penis, or a lifetime of people singing "hey mickey you're so fine, you're so fine you blow my mind" at you.

Stick with Michael.

LovelyBaubles · 04/01/2017 14:56

Oh Mickey, you're so fine you're so fine you blow my mind,
hey Mickey, hey Mickey

Ilovenannyplum · 04/01/2017 15:10

Mouse.

It's bad. Sorry Blush

MapMyMum · 04/01/2017 15:14

In Ireland a Mickey is a willy....so the Mickey Mouse tinsel sold at Christmas made great jokes "Mickey tinsel".... so personally Id go for something else but of course that probably wont have any affect on your ds unless you move here

hollyisalovelyname · 04/01/2017 15:25

I'm with Wigglesrock.
It's slang for penis in Ireland.

SausageSoda · 04/01/2017 15:59

It's slang for penis where I'm from. Mikey is better as a nn for Michael rather than Mickey imo.

reuset · 04/01/2017 17:20

I also have the Irish connection, so definitely not. Even that aside it's not the best name for a human

DorotheaBeale · 04/01/2017 17:24

Call him Michael, and let him choose what nickname he wants, if any, when he's old enough.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 04/01/2017 17:30

Michael is a great name, Mickey or Mikey for a nick name.

MitzyLeFrouf · 04/01/2017 17:38

I think of a penis too.

Michael is great though.
