Galina or Galena?

What do you think of the name Galina? And do you prefer the spelling Galina or Galena?

DC is due is 5 days and we're still at a loss for a name. DH likes this one with the nickname Gigi.

I think Geraldine nn Gigi could work (or simply Gina).

We aren't Russian, but DH is Norwegian so we need a name that works there as well and I don't like a lot of Scandi names.

We'd pronounce the ending like Tina orange, so thanks for that insight! Perhaps Galina makes more sense then.

Gallina is Italian for hen also. I can't get passed that.

No I apologise hen is gallina with two lls.

Neither of us have any connection with Spain or any knowledge of Spanish. We live in Australia, so I don't think the hen association would be a thing here.

The one I know is Galena (rhymes with Tina).

I like Galina (to rhyme with Tina) and also nn Lina is lovely. Not so keen on Gigi but sure it could be cute on a really little one.

If I read Galena I would say it with a long eh sound or even Ga-lay-na.

For me personally Galina is too close to gallina. Which means hen in Italian...

And whilst Italian may not be widely spoken there are quite a lot of Italians. And combine that with all the people that speak Spanish...

So, definitely Galena.

I like it (but never learned Spanish or Italian, so wouldn't make that association.) Reminds me of a character in a book i read years ago called "The Summer of the Barshinskeys."

Not sure about Gigi being short for Galina. Russian nicknames for Galina would be Galia/Galya, Galinka, Galochka, Galchonok, Galka

And the name has origins in ancient Greek and means tranquility and silence

There are loads of lovely Norwegian girls names (we have lots of Norwegian nieces). :)
