It's growing on me...am I going insane?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Umm..... It's rather austere and Victorian. It's the sort of thing an evil great-aunt would be called in a Dickens novel.

In fact the only two Augustas I can think of off-hand are both 'Aunt Augusta's from literature. One from Graham Greene and one from Oscar Wilde.

I wouldn't!

PenelopeFlintstone · 01/01/2017 06:03

Gloop. Sorry.

Pluto30 · 01/01/2017 06:10

Matronly and domineering sounding.

howtheheckdoidealwiththis · 01/01/2017 08:59

I think it's a great name. I know a young one and it is cool on her.

1horatio · 01/01/2017 09:14

I love it.

I also like Agatha/e and Alberta... ;)

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 01/01/2017 10:38

Not a fan.

IAmNotTheOneWhoKnocks · 01/01/2017 10:39

I like it!

moreshitandnofuckingredemption · 01/01/2017 10:41

Makes me think of Gussie Fink-Nottle from Jeeves & Wooster

MikeUniformMike · 01/01/2017 13:10

Me too moreshit! OK as a middle name maybe.

Gussie gusset...

Aftertheraincomesthesun · 01/01/2017 13:23

Love it.

RortyCrankle · 01/01/2017 14:58

It's also a city in Georgia

Beebeeeight · 01/01/2017 15:00

I love it.

I think it is very underused and is due a revival.

It's been a royal name for centuries so isn't 'chavvy'.

Zhabr · 01/01/2017 16:01

Like it. I know a lovely girl called Gussie.

LobsterQuadrille · 01/01/2017 16:17

I played Lady Bracknell once - she was Aunt Augusta and not the most likeable of characters .....

What about Octavia?

WellErrr · 01/01/2017 16:28

I know one. She gets called Gussie. It's actually really nice in real life.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 01/01/2017 17:56

Very pretty, but. I don't think it'd suit. Unless baby is due or was conceived in August.

KERALA1 · 01/01/2017 19:53

I liked it wanted for dd2 but every single other person in my life including Dh hated it. Mentioned it to dd2 recently she's now 8 and hates it too.

buttercup54321 · 02/01/2017 00:44

Augusta Louise would be pretty

GiddyGiddyGoat · 02/01/2017 00:50

It's lovely - my ds has the male version!
Also LOVE Albertine / Albertina

PranstonBickle · 02/01/2017 08:58

LOVE Augusta and the other suggestions here. Now I think about it there is something clear and strong sounding about the 'A' look or sound of these names that really appeals.

Stalingrad · 02/01/2017 11:58

I want to like it but Gussie makes me think of gussets.

Aurora?
Aurelia?
Agatha?
Araminta?

BendydickCuminsnatch · 02/01/2017 12:24

It's the emphasis on the 'gust' that puts me off I think. I much prefer just August. I think it's usually a boy's name, but that wouldn't put me off. April/May/June/Sunday/Wednesday... August!

Having said that I much prefer Alberta. Future DD would be Adelaide.

MikeUniformMike · 02/01/2017 14:26

Albertine is nice.
Love your username Bendy.

1horatio · 02/01/2017 14:38

Mike

Albertina/Albertine is a lovely name. I love Alberta but really dislike the nn Berta.
I don't think somebody would use the nn Berta for somebody called Albertine.

DramaAlpaca · 02/01/2017 16:29

Augusta sounds very grand to me.
