Pretty and due a resurgence?

What about Clarinda or Melinda? There wouldn't be the possibility for Bellend related teasing?

I love Clarinda but seeing as DD is Clarissa I'm obviously biased ;)

merrymouse · 31/12/2016 09:32

Love it.

User543212345 · 31/12/2016 09:34

I love it, though one of the two I knew had the surname Jones that ended up with the inevitable nickname BJ. The other was Lindy or sometimes Bendy, which I quite liked.

GinIsIn · 31/12/2016 09:48

I hate it. And the one I went to school with was indeed called Bellend.

BattleaxeGalactica · 31/12/2016 10:21

First thought was Bellend too. Sorry. Especially as there are so many other lovely nn's here. #guttermind

876TaylorMade · 31/12/2016 10:26

It reminds me of an old lady I knew growing up.

WaitrosePigeon · 31/12/2016 11:01

Bellend-Er

LouiseBrooks · 31/12/2016 12:14

When I was growing up my parents were friendly with a nice couple who had a daughter called Belinda. She was a couple of years older than me, tall and very slim with long dark hair. I wanted to be Belinda.

Nobody ever called her anything but the full version of her name. I think I like it because it reminds me of her, whereas I used to hate the name Beverley because the only one I knew was a right bitch.

SausageSoda · 31/12/2016 13:14

I would never ever think that Billie was a nn for Belinda and wouldn't make the connection if I heard it in real life.

I know one Belinda who had the nn Bindy at school but mainly just goes by Belinda now. I know a very posh one who was nn'd Bels or Bell.

I quite like Belinda as a name.

pilates · 31/12/2016 13:22

No, sorry

cornflowerblu · 31/12/2016 13:24

I like it, much better than all the faux posh affected names going around most of the time

bowchikkawowwow · 31/12/2016 13:45

I'm not keen. Sounds like the name of your grandmas neighbour.

CakeRattleandRoll · 31/12/2016 15:53

I like it. And Melinda.

littlepinkmouseofsugar · 31/12/2016 17:07

I like it. Melinda is pretty too. I've only every met one of each.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 31/12/2016 17:28

I do like the name, but at school, Belinda was Bellender !
Still, kids always find a way, don't they.

missyB1 · 31/12/2016 17:32

I love it and have never heard a Belinda being called Bellend! The Belinda I knew at school was a lovely girl. I think thats why Ive always liked the name.

Soubriquet · 31/12/2016 17:35

I'm not keen tbh

And I would probably use the NN Bertie if I had to

1horatio · 31/12/2016 17:45

Soubriquet

Tbh, I do like the nickname Bertie. One of the reasons I adore the name Alberta...

AbernathysFringe · 31/12/2016 18:10

Belinda is pretty. We've just named a Happyland figure that! I'd say it's due a resurgence.
Billie I associate with Holliday. I like that a lot too, but wouldn't use it for Belinda unless the Belinda turned out to be rather a tough nut.

Barefootcontessa84 · 31/12/2016 18:14

No from me! I know one so specific connotations - I find it very dated and incredibly frumpy...! Sorry

Flumplet · 31/12/2016 18:27

I went to school with a Belinda and she was always called Bellender by the mean kids. I wouldn't wish that on anyone op.

Aquamarine1029 · 01/01/2017 22:54

Nope. No way.

ViewBasket · 02/01/2017 00:06

Yes, I like it and think it's due a comeback :-) It reminds me of Purcell's opera with the song "Ah Belinda".

JustHereForThePooStories · 02/01/2017 00:08

@batfurger, I thought the exact same thing!

QueenLizIII · 02/01/2017 00:21

How about Benilda instead?

Unusual and sounds similar. May avoid the Billie NN if you dont like that.

i think the name Benilda was used in a famous ballet although I dont remember which one.
