Smallwood-Lockwood - can we?

My surname is Smallwood... DP's is Lockwood. We have decided on William (Billy) and would like him to have both our surnames. However, is Smallwood-Lockwood awful? Confused if so, I will push for my surname - as we are not married.

Thank you!

I think it's a bit much.

RunningHurts · 27/12/2016 17:45

Why not give baby surname Wood?

sadtuesdaycat · 27/12/2016 17:46

It's fine but if I were you, I'd get the thread pulled. You've just given your son's full name.

Good luck for the birth and enjoy your gorgeous baby!

Smallwood-Lockwood is horrendous, sorry. Also, as a teacher, I can't help but point out the name Willy Smallwood is not going to help the self-esteem of any child once the teasing starts!!!

user1482860159 · 27/12/2016 17:51

I will get it pulled... Thanks, but he isn't here yet!

He will be known as Billy - I doubt he will even know he's a William, until a bit older.

I don't see the point in having just Wood, as it means nothing to either of us - we would all have different surnames. I also don't like names that have alliteration. It doesn't matter, if it's not possible, I will end up pushing for it!

Pushing for Smallwood, I mean!

Locksmallwood?

Watto1 · 27/12/2016 17:54

Locksmall? Smallock? Actually, maybe not the second one!

ChocoChou · 27/12/2016 17:54

I'd go middle name Locke, surname Smallwood.
Are you planning on getting married and if so will you keep your surname?
I agree that you should give ur DC your surname if unmarried (I didn't and regret it)
But once you're married would you change DCs name? Have to take it all into consideration.

But agree with PO that Smallwood-Lockwood is waaaaaay too much

allegretto · 27/12/2016 17:56

Smallwood-Lockwood no.

You need to be more creative-
Doublewood?
Twowoods?
Forest?

GeorgeTheThird · 27/12/2016 18:00

No. What a terrible mouthful. Would you like it?

Blacksox · 27/12/2016 18:01

No. It's absolutely ridiculous.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 27/12/2016 18:29

OP, go for Smallwood, the full title is too much. 😀

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 27/12/2016 18:29

P.S. Billy is a great name !

IAmNotTheOneWhoKnocks · 27/12/2016 18:35

I don't see the problem tbh.

Hellooooitsme · 27/12/2016 18:38

The names are so similar, just pick one.

smEGGnogg · 27/12/2016 18:45

Lock-Smallwood or Small-Lockwood would be fine.

Lockwood-Smallwood is too much.

PleaseDoNotTagMe · 27/12/2016 18:46

I would have Wood.

tootiredforthis16 · 27/12/2016 18:48

I don't see a problem with it.

MikeUniformMike · 27/12/2016 18:49

Get married and take your husband's surname, or he take yours.

DollyPlastic · 27/12/2016 18:51

No. You really can't.

What about Billy Lock Smallwood?

(Personally I'd be happy to lose the small wood as the one I know played rugby at quite a high level and was constantly teased for it. Jokes from the other lads about small willies)

TheHiphopopotamus · 27/12/2016 18:53

William is great but Smallwood-Lockwood is terrible. Please don't inflict that surname on your child.

You need to decide on one of them and go with it.

PotteringAlong · 27/12/2016 18:55

Do not call him William if you go with Smallwood - the tiny penis jokes are going to be never ending once he hits teenage years!

Scribblegirl · 27/12/2016 18:56

I actually would go with William Locksmall!

Jemimachristmaspuddingduck · 27/12/2016 18:58

I'd go with small-lockwood you then get the best of both and if you get married you and your partner could take the merged name as well then it's special to your little family.
