Looking for a girl's name to go with this surname

Pluto30 · 22/12/2016 00:34

The surname is Lee.

We're looking for something relatively short both in syllables and number of letters (no more than 3 syllables at a push), something that is known and easy to spell/pronounce, but isn't overly popular, and something that sounds "nice" with our surname when said together.

Names we've considered but aren't sold on include:

  • Hannah
  • Sadie
  • Juliet
  • Daisy

The name we like most is Chloe, but it has been in the top 100 where we live since 1985 and is currently at no. 6, so it's simply too popular for us to want to use it.

Thanks everyone!

Jenny please after the wonderful writer Jennifer Worth. Her maiden name was Lee and her name sounds so lovely in her books based on her experiences of being a midwife in 1950's London

Pluto30 · 22/12/2016 20:54

Yeah, I probably wouldn't use Amelia for the same reason.

Like Alice, Stella, Penelope (not keen on Penny though), Theodore, Valentina (what would this get shortened to though?) and Naomi.

I actually love Jenny and Jenna, but we already have a Jennifer/Jen in the family, unfortunately.

Theodora* Blush

I like Dora.

Penelope - can be shortened to Nell or Nelly

Valentina - doesn't need to be shortened, but a friend uses Leni with family

If you like Theodora/Dora, maybe:

Leonora Lee
(nickname Leo,Lea, Nora)

Artandco · 22/12/2016 21:05

Actually Leo Lee is crap!

JingleBellies · 22/12/2016 21:10

If someone in your family already has the name Jenny, how about

Janie/Janey
Jacie/Jaycie
Jamie/Jaymie

Pluto30 · 22/12/2016 21:10

Hmm, don't much like Nelly/Nell either. Sad

I suppose Valentina doesn't really need a nickname. The Australian tendency to shorten eveeeerything would make me worry it'd be shortened to Val though haha!

Love Leonora, but yeah, Leo Lee is not quite as lovely!

I'm not so keen on Janie, but do like Joan/Joanie.

Joan Lee might be "too short" though.

Pluto30 · 22/12/2016 21:40

I used to love Phoebe a lot, but on mentioning it to my friend a while back she said Phoebe Lee sounded like "feebly".

Poppy is cute. I wonder if that could work as a nickname for Penelope...

Rebecca

Artandco · 22/12/2016 21:46

I think nothing ending in y or ie or e sounds as it's then ee Lee. So ending in a or a consonant

Rosalind Lee
Margot Lee
Erin Lee
Astrid Lee
Meredith Lee

Artandco · 22/12/2016 21:48

Or

Jasmin Lee

ChittyBB · 22/12/2016 21:48

Poppy Lee sounds like the word "properly" said by someone who can't pronounce their Rs.

Jenny.
Jenny Lee was the name of NYE Bevan's wife and she was a campaigner on a wide number of things.

Katherine Lee. I went to school with a girl of that name. She was lovely.

SVJAA · 23/12/2016 07:27

Pluto30 my DSDs name is Vivienne Leigh (Leigh is the middle name) and NOBODY gets it 😂

oleoleoleole · 23/12/2016 07:33

Some lovely suggestions but I would avoid anything beginning with F as in F Lee ( flea), just my observation.

ChittyBB · 23/12/2016 11:30

Go with a G, then you have GLee as initial and last name which is a perfect word to have in your name.

Georgina Lee
