My favourite is Eliza, closely followed by Eleanor, Hannah and Charlotte. I also like Emmeline, Arianna and Elise. I'm not keen on Ameline, Emiliana, Maisie or Emmylou.

Serin · 21/12/2016 19:51

Love Eleni, it is beautiful and elegant.
A classic (well, in Greece!).

Also like, Marianne, Eliza and Maya.

Fiveandcounting · 21/12/2016 23:37

We have an Eleni and an Arianne. Thinking about Isabella for the next one.

shalalala · 23/12/2016 15:55

Sorry OP, just seen your question to me.

Yes, we've had Eleanor at the doctors, passport office, etc. I expect it, as its not an intuitive pronunciation in English, so it doesn't bother me. It's easy enough to correct people/let it go. Most of the time I introduce her verbally, so it's not an issue.

SueGeneris · 28/12/2016 09:23

I also have an Elena and would ditto what Raines100 says about mispronunciation and the fact that it's a minor issue. We pronounce it in the same way but as it's a fairly international name there are various valid pronunciations. I love the name though (and so does she) and she is not bothered correcting people if they say it 'wrong'. No one has shortened it yet (well, except her brother who sometimes calls her Hayna-bees, but I expect that's not too common!). And I sometimes drop the 'E' so she becomes Lena. I think that's a more natural shortening than Ellie.

MerryMarigold · 28/12/2016 09:29

My name is on the list and never shortened to Ellie. I like Emilia. O think Emiliana is too much of a mouthful and Amelia is very popular but I really like Emilia. I also like Charlotte, none of the other variations. Underused name in my opinion. I like Isabelle. How about Julia or Juliet?

caffelatte100 · 29/12/2016 22:34

Estella or Elodie I love.

Carlotta? (version of Charlotte in most of Europe?)

xkxate123 · 30/12/2016 09:01

Never seen Eira before but like it!
Quite like Eliza and Amelie.
My favourite is probably eveline, but pronounced ave-el-een, rather than eve-el-een? Xx

MsCoconut · 31/12/2016 15:42

In defence of Emmylou, I secretly wanted to use Emily Louisa as a first and middle name that could abbreviate to this if we chose to and give a nod to Emmylou Harris.

In the end I went off Emily due to knowing too many but DD does have a middle name that can abbreviate to Lou!

lucieloos · 01/01/2017 11:18

Thanks for all the comments. We do really like Elena and it's pretty high up the list. Good to hear from others that the misspelling etc is a pretty minor thing. I would also pronounce it Eleanor but we prefer Elena spelling as we are Welsh and Elena has a meaning in Welsh.
