I would say L-eye-us. I really like it.

Hm very mixed responses.

I am used to the German El-ee-as but sounds like I would probably get El-eye-as especially as we're not far from Wales.

Ellis might work better, which I also like.

ee-LYE-us. It's a nice name, strong and quite unusual.

ilovetosleep · 18/12/2016 19:54

Gosh I'm amazed at these replies, I have never ever heard of the probunciation El- eye- us/as. Have known lots of men/boys called Elias, mostly Arabic or French, and they all say El-ee-as. Pronounced that way it is a strong contender for DC3 if it's a boy.

E lee ass pain in the ass?

Sandsnake · 18/12/2016 20:09

I really like it. I would say it el-eee-ass, but I think that's just because I first heard it in a Danish film and loved how it sounded. I think over here it's more usually eh-lie-us.

Staranise123 · 18/12/2016 22:26

El-LEE-as

Kathysclown · 18/12/2016 22:34

El - ee - us.

Pronounced like the above, it is an Arabic boys name - it is lovely.

Snoopysimaginaryfriend · 18/12/2016 22:45

My first choice for a boy. My family are Spanish so it would be el-EE-us

rainbow99 · 18/12/2016 23:39

El lee ass

Satisfactorylemon · 19/12/2016 19:40

The 'ass' though.. Confused

bluechameleon · 19/12/2016 19:43

I know a Moroccan child who pronounces it Ell-ee-uss and another of middle eastern origin who pronounces it ill-ee-uss.

rubberducker · 19/12/2016 19:47

I'd say El-eye-as, never heard the el-EE-as pronunciation. Great name - DH and I couldn't decide between Elias or Elijah for DS3 so we ended up just going for Eli on its own.

ChittyBB · 22/12/2016 20:34

I know two from Wales who are El-eye-us and one from the Middle East who is Elee-as.

I love it with the Welsh pronounciation.

AmberEars · 22/12/2016 20:37

I know an Ell-EE-as. I think he's Dutch.

I prefer Ellis.

Staranise123 · 22/12/2016 21:26

I've only heard it pronounced El-LEE-as

Hulababy · 22/12/2016 21:30

I taught an Elias. He pronounced it El-i-us (very short a/u sound near end)

lucieloos · 22/12/2016 21:57

Elias isn't a Welsh name, the Welsh version is Ellis.
