Elliot or Elliott?

I know Elliot is the original, but Elliott is more popular - people claim that Elliott is more balanced, but I disagree, as the syllables cut at El-li-ot and not Ell-i-ott Grin I know I'm overthinking this!

Which would you go for?

I don't understand how much thought can go into a name.

The original looks better but that's because it's the original and the extra t looks odd to my eyes.

Do you discuss every name like this?

TheStephens · 17/12/2016 04:07

No... We have decided on Elliot/Elliott, so we're now discussing the spelling. I don't see why putting thought into a person's name is bad?

One t. 2 is for the surname.

TheStephens · 17/12/2016 04:30

Well, I know someone with the surname Elliot Grin

One t.

Satisfactorylemon · 17/12/2016 04:43

Elliott looks more balanced.

Pluto30 · 17/12/2016 05:30

Elliot.

Elliott is very surnamey.

dollywobbles · 17/12/2016 06:03

One t but you find a lot of people spell it with 2. More than spell it with 1.

PenelopeFlintstone · 17/12/2016 06:12

One t.

Xanadu46 · 17/12/2016 06:45

One t

1horatio · 17/12/2016 09:43

Elliot!!

JunebabyT · 17/12/2016 11:26

Elliot is much nicer.

I love it and would have it if it went with my surname Envy

Maverickismywingman · 17/12/2016 11:32

One t.

Out of curiosity for a girl or for a boy, OP? (Or both?) the name has become a bit unisex since Scrubs and I'm saying because I would love to have it for a girl

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 17/12/2016 11:33

Elliot

GraciesMansion · 17/12/2016 11:35

I would go for Elliott, but only because I find it easier to remember "2ls, 2ts" when I'm spelling it for other people's kids.

NotTheOriginalGreen · 17/12/2016 12:09

DH is an Elliott and gets annoyed that people always spell it with one t. Save a lifetime of angst and go with Elliot

loobylou10 · 17/12/2016 12:10

I have an Elliot. 1 t. 2 is for a surname imo. Be prepared for everyone to spell it wrong though!

loobylou10 · 17/12/2016 12:11

Ha notthe - views from both sides there!

Raahh · 18/12/2016 20:22

I have an Elliot, (aged 14) with 1 t- I'm in the 2 t's is a surname camp.

The Elliott is E.T. is 2 't's which confirms the 'surname' use imo .

Raahh · 18/12/2016 20:23

(even though that is his first name, but you know what I mean)

Evergreen17 · 21/12/2016 08:20

Elliot

HearTheThunderRoar · 21/12/2016 08:23

Elliott.

My Dad's middle name is Elliott. (So spelt with two Ts.)

FannyWincham · 21/12/2016 08:30

the name has become a bit unisex since Scrubs

No, it hasn't.

girlelephant · 21/12/2016 08:31

First one looks "correct" to me as a first name

MollyHuaCha · 21/12/2016 08:42
