Ronin not Ronan

If I said to you that my sons name was 'Ronin', would you think I'd actually said 'Ronan'? For clarity, it's pronounced 'roe-nin'.

DH and I like the name Ronin but he dislikes Ronan because he doesn't want people to think we named our boy after Ronan Keating. He's not a fan lol. I think he's being silly and that both are nice but DH isn't budging.

Would we end up with massive name regret because we'd have to keep saying "No, not Ronan, Ronin!" Confused

I met someone recently called Ronen, I think it's a nice variation.

Rohan?

Ronan is very popular in Ireland so your DH going on about Ronan Keating is being ridiculous to be honest. Besides Ronan Keating's hey day is long gone and very few people will make the association or even care about it. If it's a name you love then put your foot down about it. It really is a lovely name.

So, if DH is that good a shooting down names... is he also good at suggesting them?

What are his suggestions?

TallyHoAndToodlePip · 16/12/2016 12:04

1horatio, generally speaking, for every 10 names I give him he gives me 1 back.

All the names he's picked just haven't grabbed me. I don't want to cause offence to anyone who's named their kids the following but these are his suggestions: Reece, Bradley, Liam, Oscar, Darren... can't think of anymore off the top of my head.

It'll be ok. Even if we have to wait until the day baby makes his grand entrance we'll get there in the end. You never know, we might have one of those moments where we look at him and say "He looks like a Charlie!" (for example!) or something like that Grin

That way danger lies! He'll come out and you'll go, he looks like a baby!!
Hmm, actually no one calls their baby, 'baby' lets call him baby! Grin

Woofwoof😂😂

Saying no is imo easier than actually suggesting a name...

I like Charles, btw. And Imlove Charlie :)!

I have a Rónán, never been asked if he was named after Ronan Keating tbh.

Not sure if that is true, but:

A samurai became masterless from the ruin or fall of his master, or after the loss of his master's favor or privilege. Rōnin might be hired as yōjimbō (bodyguards or mercenary fighters) by villagers, merchants, or others in need of protection. In this way, many ronin were extended a respect equal to that of master-sponsored samurai by the general population; they were actually preferred by Zen masters, artists, and philosophers over the faceless samurai counterparts, who remained ultimately subservient to their Samauri masters.

Bound and dedicated men, most samurai resented the personal freedom that the wandering ronin enjoyed. Ronin were the epitome of self-determination; they were independent men who dictated their own path in life, answering only to themselves and making decisions as they saw fit.

So... why not Ronin?
If we have a boy the 2nd time round I'll suggest this... Well, I should probably start a new name list. Or else I might forget about it. ;)

Nataleejah · 16/12/2016 16:46

Ronald maybe? Ron, Ronnie -- can't get this one wrong

birdybirdywoofwoof · 16/12/2016 17:03

I fear the DH might say, Ronald?? Ronald Reagan! Ronald Mcdonald!

1horatio · 16/12/2016 17:05

Ronaldo?

Like the footballer? Or just Ron?
