Cecilia
(one of my favourites; great musical heritage; not overused; CeCe nice NN)

Cecily
(pretty and also not overused; gets my vote, almost entirely because it brings back happy childhood memories of Beatrix Potter's "Cecily Parsley") Xmas Blush

CakeRattleandRoll · 14/12/2016 23:13

Cecily / Cecilia are my favourites. I like both of them.

WhiteHairReally · 14/12/2016 23:35

I actually prefer Celia, which is an anagram of English spelt Alice but is somehow less frilly than the other Cecily Cecelia versions.

Sophronia · 15/12/2016 00:02

Cecilia is my favourite

pinkblink · 15/12/2016 00:04

I love Cecily, so pretty and different

BackforGood · 15/12/2016 00:19

I like Alice or Cecilia

Unless you are going to be living in a Welsh speaking community, don't go with a Welsh spelling of a name - she will spend her life having to correct people.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 15/12/2016 10:26

Alice and Matilda.

Jooni · 15/12/2016 12:27

Matilda and Cecily are lovely.

Alice is OK.

Do not get Ottilie at all I'm afraid.

1horatio · 15/12/2016 13:45

Alys / Alice: Alice is nice.
Cecily / Cecilia: nice, I prefer Celia. I personally actually really love Celia. It's so 'sleek' but sounds also strong and feminine,
Ottilie: cute
Matilda: very popular. But it is lovely.

mintyourownbusiness · 15/12/2016 16:53

Hmm, thanks everyone! I've whittled it down to Cecily or Alys I think Xmas Grin

In that case definitely Alys. Not keen on Cecily!

minipie · 15/12/2016 17:15

Cecily for me

Alys is a bit try hard to me. It's as if you liked Alice, but wanted to make it more interesting with a different spelling. Or you're a huge Chaucer fan.

Harvestwidow · 17/12/2016 00:48

My sister is Cecily and went through school being Cess or Cesspit, just something to think about

sugarplumfairy28 · 19/12/2016 12:27

Really dislike Alice. Ottilie is beautiful, I am very bias there though.

user1477282676 · 19/12/2016 12:29

People will constantly spell it wrong on forms etc if you spell Alice as Alys. You or she will always have to point out the correct spelling.

And it looks weird.

Like it's "Al -is" rather than Al ICE.

Allalonenow · 19/12/2016 13:52

The Cecily I know has had Cece for a nn from a little girl, with no derogatory names at all. I think Cecily is a name that's pretty when they are little, and cool and sophisticated for a grown up.

margewiththebluehair · 19/12/2016 14:37

I remember a movie where Joan Collins played a girl called Ottilie, I think it is a beautiful name, quite unusual and unique. She was so beautiful in that movie.

Cecily is my second favourite. But Alice and Mathilda not so sure.

PurpleDaisies · 19/12/2016 14:41

Alys is a perfectly acceptable variant spelling of Alice. There are different ways of spelling Isobel/Claire/Rachel/Katherine etc but no one tells people not to use those names.

I really like Alys.

Jigglealltheway · 19/12/2016 19:34

I like Alice. How about Alyce? Or Alyssia ?
Matilda then Cecily.
Not crazy about Ottilie, reminds me of an otta.
