Alice or Philippa

Posting on behalf of a friend still early days but these are the favourite two, they like names that can shorten to nicknames (yes I know not liked by some but they do) so Philippa would be Pippa day to day. Would Allie/Ally or Lissie work as a nickname for Alice? I'm not sure Alice really needs a nick name anyway. Out of the two I think I prefer Alice it's classy and timeless. They prefer Pippa but like Alice more than Philippa.

Love Alice and pip

Hate ally and Phillipa

OwlDoll · 14/12/2016 11:10

Are you one of the baby's parents? If not it doesn't actually matter which name you prefer.
If the parents like Pippa but not Phillipa then the obvious answer is to name the baby PippaConfused

NiceFalafels · 14/12/2016 11:11

Call her pippa on her certificate?

Pluto30 · 14/12/2016 11:25

I don't even know how to spell Philippa properly...

Prefer Alice.

AnnetteKertan · 14/12/2016 13:38

The parents have better taste than you I'm afraid. Philippa is lovely, Alice is so drippy. It also doesn't fit the criteria of needing a shortened version. It's two syllables. Alison with Alice as a nn would make more sense.

MikeUniformMike · 14/12/2016 13:42

Alison is so dated. Alice becomes Al, and Philippa becomes Phil or Flip. Not keen on Pippa. Pip/Pippi is sweet.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 14/12/2016 13:51

Philippa (Pippa).
Alice is becoming overused, now

Gruffalosfriend · 14/12/2016 14:32

What is this obsession with nicknames on here Confused? Why on earth would you shorten Alice to Lissie..?!

I like Philippa a lot! But I don't like Pippa at all, sorry. Too close to pippi (wee).

Jooni · 14/12/2016 17:18

Philippa! Lovely and quite unusual, plus I think Pippa is fab.

I've always found Alice a little drab.

Sophronia · 14/12/2016 17:20

Philippa nn Pippa, it's a bit more unusual than Alice

KERALA1 · 15/12/2016 18:15

Bored of Alice.

BratFarrarsPony · 15/12/2016 18:17

Please dont use Pippa as a nickname it means something horrible in just about every European language there is.
In Polish it means 'cunt', in Italian it means 'blowjob' and there are more.

BratFarrarsPony · 15/12/2016 18:24

sorry actually 'handjob'.
And it means 'to have sex with ' but not in a nice way, in Swedish.

BratFarrarsPony · 15/12/2016 18:25

...and in Greek it is 'blowjob'...:)

foobio · 15/12/2016 18:29

My DD is Pippa, Philippa on birth cert in case she wants a more formal version in future (or decides to live in Poland or Italy!) Good taste as I like Alice too, but it wouldn't work with our surname.
