enqueue · 12/12/2016 22:22

Am due a daughter early in the new year and looking for opinions on our shortlist of 6 names please. Struggling a bit because DS was born v preterm so this pregnancy has been a bit stressful, anyway we are on the home stretch now so need to get whittling the list down! DS has top-10 name which we almost didn't use because of that but kept coming back to it because we loved it.

Daisy
Elodie
Elsie
India
Ivy
Zara

FWIW favourites of mine that have been vetoed were Cora and Ruby.

Elodie is gorgeous

ScarletSienna · 13/12/2016 18:40

I think I would avoid names with the same ending - too rhymy. So because of that I'd go for:
Elodie Martha (love!)
Or
Zara Mattie

Beebeeeight · 13/12/2016 19:08

Ivy

OhTheRoses · 13/12/2016 19:19

Thing is OP everyone will have a different view - that's why we all have different names.

DarkestBeforeDawn · 13/12/2016 19:21

Yes to Iris too! Personally though I adore Martha as a first name (and call her Mattie). If not, Elodie would be my vote.

Lizziedoll · 13/12/2016 20:30

I love Daisy. Has been vetoed by my OH Envy

17caterpillars1mouse · 14/12/2016 08:46

Daisy - it's pretty but my least favourite from your list. I know two, one is a 2016 baby

Elodie - lovely name that is unusual but heard off
Elsie - a bit to cutesy for me as a full name though I like it as a nickname for Elisabeth

India - pretty but not my style. If you have a fond assosication for the country I like it more. Indy is ultra cute

Ivy - lovely name and my favourite from your list

Zara - also a lovely name. I've never met one but think it sounds classy

Helloooooitsme · 14/12/2016 08:47

Elodie is nice. I don't know a real life one.

Don't like Elsie or Ivy at all.

aforestgrewandgrew · 14/12/2016 08:53

Yy to

Elodie Martha
Zara Mattie

Jooni · 14/12/2016 12:11

Zara is my favourite. It's feisty and sounds great with Mattie IMO.

I'm not sure something with an -ie/-y ending really works with Mattie in the middle - not that it's a huge deal I suppose, but I'd personally look for something with a different final sound for the first name. I'm not keen on India though.

enqueue · 14/12/2016 12:40

Thank you all. I am more inclined to use Mattie as middle name as my beloved grandmother has always said she hates Martha - and it will be in her honour after all! And that itself I think trumps (eurgh using that word makes me a bit ill these days) the whole rhyme-y ending problem, I've come to the conclusion that lots of people probably worry too much about what 1st and 2nd name sound like together when 2nd name is barely used. We have ruled out Maggie as a first name as that would be TOO much!
I'm glad Zara hasn't got too many dislikes, I thought it might - and no one has mentioned the shop, will tell OH this!!

Zara.

Jigglealltheway · 16/12/2016 22:16

Elodie is so pretty. Second choice Zara.

capercaillie · 16/12/2016 22:19

Zara - lovely and unusual

bluechameleon · 16/12/2016 23:43

Daisy - a bit cutesy
Elodie - pretty
Elsie - a bit cutesy but good as a nickname for Elisabeth
India - not keen
Ivy - love. This is my favourite
Zara - pretty

Redpramlady · 02/01/2017 22:18

Love Elodie as I have one!

If you really like zara how about Sara? Same sounding!

Raines100 · 02/01/2017 22:29

Zara is my favourite and the nicest with Mattie.
I like Elsie! Due a comeback.
Elodie is nice-sounding, but I've known several (time in France), and it's put me off.
Ivy- not keen
Daisy- cutesy/popular/meh
India- just meh

TheThingsWeAdmitOnMN · 02/01/2017 22:30

Do we have an arrival yet?

enqueue · 02/01/2017 22:46

Yes!!
She will be 2 weeks old tomorrow - born at 36+4 in a flurry of drama (no change there then!); they broke my waters as concerns about low amniotic fluid levels plus intermittent HR decelerations, I had been having v mild BH type but regular contractions for >24h and had been 3cm dilated all that time. Anyway after ARM nothing changed for about 15mins and then suddenly it was all systems go, zero to 100 within a couple of contractions and she arrived under 10mins. Would have been even quicker had they not stuffed me in a wheelchair (at an angle due to baby's head) and moved me from antenatal to a delivery room. I think we caused quite a stir 😳
Anyway she is healthy and beautiful and is called Daisy Mattie. I probably would have marginally gone for Zara or Elodie myself but my husband loves Daisy and I got final say on our son's name! I do like Daisy and it suits her already - I think she will be quite feisty and not particularly princess-y so a slightly cute name a nice match.
Thanks everyone for your input - it is really nice to have impartial opinions on these matters that you can't really bring up with those close to you as they can never hide their reactions!

I would use Elsie as a nn for Elizabeth.

Ivy and Zara also good (elegant, not too cutesy..)

Really like Cora also but appreciate you can't use that.

aforestgrewandgrew · 02/01/2017 23:16

Congratulations! Lovely name :)

buttercup54321 · 02/01/2017 23:30

I like Elodie best from the list and I love Martha. What about Coralie? I went to school with a girl called Melody.

TheThingsWeAdmitOnMN · 02/01/2017 23:35

💐🎉Congratulations! 😘

Daisy is lovely.

Her birth sounds a tad dramatic! How are you recovering? How is DS taking to her? Etc etc. 😁

You're only in a little bit of trouble for not telling us sooner!

JudgeJudySheidlin · 02/01/2017 23:53
