Which names work best for twin girls:

Elizabeth known as Eliza & Matilda known at Tilda

Dorothea known as Dora and Wilhelmina known as Willa

Otillie known as Tilly and Isadora known as Dora

Beatrice known as Bea and Elixabeth known as Eliza

My favourite combination would be Bea and Eliza Smile I think Eliza and Willa could work too.

dotdash · 09/12/2016 22:26

Otillie and Isadora are lovely names with great shorter versions.

I like Tilly and Dora too - seems balanced (2 syllables in each name). our neighbour's dog is called Willa which is my only reason for not liking it for one of your girls, but they're all lovely names.

Just be careful picking names where there is a more usual nickname, so for instance Liz / Beth / Libby are all more usual shortened versions of Elizabeth than Eliza and if you're set on a particular nickname, its quite difficult to maintain that as they get older (school / friends etc may use something you're not fond of).

Congratulations on your twin pregnancy too [I'm a twin and have twins! Its fab]

I like Dorothea and Wilhelmina

SeaweedSa1ad · 10/12/2016 00:21

I like the Dorothea & Wilhelmina pairing, but prefer Thea and Mina as the shortened versions.

BadToTheBone · 10/12/2016 00:28

Eliza and Tilda or Tilly. Don't like Dora at all.

Pluto30 · 10/12/2016 01:18

Elizabeth and Matilda are the nicest.

However, as an Elizabeth, can I just mention that no one has ever tried to call me Eliza. It's a very different sound than the Eliza- sound in Elizabeth, and Eliza is an accepted standalone name. So, if you have your heart set on Eliza, I would advise you just to use Eliza alone. Everyone has always assumed to shorten my name to Liz or Lizzy. Yes, I could correct them to Eliza if I wanted to, but that won't stop people assuming I go by Liz(zy) for short.

The Wilhelmina I know gets called Billie. I prefer that to Willa. I prefer Dora as a nickname for Theodora. I never know how to pronounce Dorothea.

I don't like Otillie at all. It reminds me of otters, or the word "oddly". Isadora is alright, however.

Beatrice sounds foul in my Australian accent, but is much nicer in an English accent (we condense it to two syllables here - Bee-tress, like beetroot). I think I prefer Beatrix.

OlennasWimple · 10/12/2016 01:30

Eliza and Bea runs the risk of sounding like a single NN "Eliza B", rather than two separate people

Dora the Explorer is too prevalent at the moment for my liking as a name

I like Elizabeth and Matilda - both strong historical queens Smile

SaltyBitch · 10/12/2016 01:34

I love Willa

DarkNanny · 10/12/2016 01:55

Twin girls I would have one with an A name and one with a Z name but that's just me so perhaps Athena Alamathia and Zophora or Zillha

HearTheThunderRoar · 10/12/2016 03:00

None of your names are to my taste, however I like Matilda and Elizabeth best.

I'm really not keen on Dorothea and Wilhelmina, they're too long and I struggled to spell them (but that could be my dyslexia). Their nicknames are even worse imo, especially Dora.

If your that set on Eliza, why not put Eliza on the birth certificate? It's a perfectly acceptable name.

ChittyBB · 10/12/2016 07:50

I have to admit that Dorothea and Wilhelmina are my favourites but I know they are marmite names.

Dorothea is a family name. I love that it can be Dora, Dotty, Dot, Dodo, Thea etc. It's so versatile

Wilhelmina can be Willa, Billie, Mimi, Mina or Nina.

What about Dorothea known as Thea and Wilhelmina known is Mimi or Nina?

Willa is a name in it's own right.

Willa and Dorothea go well.

I know a wilhelmina nn Willow.

10Betty10 · 10/12/2016 08:06

I love Wilhelmina as Nina. Also like Willa.

Dorothea as Thea or Dolly sounds great with it too.

ChittyBB · 10/12/2016 08:07

I much prefer long names. My other children all have at least three syllables but shortened nicknames.

OP posts:
NiceFalafels · 10/12/2016 08:19

Wilhelmina and elisabeth. Will and Bess

NiceFalafels · 10/12/2016 08:20

Prefer Theodora to Dorothea as you get all the same nicknames.

NiceFalafels · 10/12/2016 08:21

Theodora and elisabeth

ChittyBB · 10/12/2016 08:40

Theodora is out because I have a Theodore nn Ted.

We did consider Arianna and Aurelia but couldn't think of a nickname for Aurelia.

OP posts:
NiceFalafels · 10/12/2016 09:07

There's also Aurora

NiceFalafels · 10/12/2016 09:11

Nick name aura or Rory

ReallyNotMyProblem · 10/12/2016 09:15

Such beautiful name choices.
Dd3 is Theodora which we shorten to Dora, if we ever not likely have any more then ottilie and willa are on the cards.

My vote goes to Isadora and Otilie
