what are your opinions?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

There's one in my DD's class - they are 11 years old.

Use it if you want to! I think there will be a fair few around in another handful of years.

Cosmicglitterpug · 10/12/2016 12:01

There was a thread about this name last week.
I have an Effie, short for Elspeth which is a form of Elizabeth, obviously I like it but the thread last week had a load of people saying how they hate it and reminds them of 'eff off'. So make of that what you will.

WhiskyTangoFoxtrot · 10/12/2016 12:16

I'd assume a fairly grand RC family and that it was a nn for Euphemia.

GizmoFrisby · 10/12/2016 12:30

I like it Grin

PeteSwotatoes · 10/12/2016 12:35

Why not give her a proper name she can use as an adult and use Effie as a nickname?

I have a long name that I've started using in my late twenties as it sounds more professional. Family still call me the nickname.

Salmotrutta · 11/12/2016 18:57

Up here in Scotland Effie is a pet name for Euphemia.

n0ne · 11/12/2016 18:59

I really dislike nicknames as full names so it's not my bag at all. Euphemia otoh is wonderful.

ThursdayLastWeek · 11/12/2016 18:59

The Hunger Games?

Ohyesiam · 11/12/2016 19:01

It's sweet as a nickname, but can't imagine feeling very empowered at a job interview ( for eg) with Effie as a name.
Also can hear effing effie.

MycatsaPirate · 11/12/2016 19:06

I love it.

PlumsGalore · 11/12/2016 19:13

I thought hunger games too, the mad woman with hair to match her outfits. I though it was a made up name pinched from the books.

Miloarmadillo1 · 11/12/2016 19:19

I know of an Effie short for Josephine. It's quite sweet as a NN, but I would want something more grown up as an option later.

Lelliot · 11/12/2016 19:23

I know an extremely successful woman named Effie. Certainly hasn't held her back in her adult life.

I like it.

Rinmybell · 11/12/2016 19:25

I like it. Effie from skins springs to mind and she was gorgeous.

VilootShesCute · 11/12/2016 19:27

My friend called her dog Effie. Was a whacking great big staff. Sorry that's all that comes to mind when I hear the name Blush

Buttonmoonb4tea · 11/12/2016 19:32

I like it. Your baby, name her what you like.

Heatherbell1978 · 11/12/2016 19:57

I know an Effie but she's Stephanie and it's just a pet nickname. I don't dislike how it sounds but not sure I'd use an 'obvious' nickname as a full name.

FourKidsNotCrazyYet · 11/12/2016 21:26

Confused nope. Sounds like the chemical formula for Iron! FE. Nope.

SpunkyMummy · 11/12/2016 21:33

It's a lovely nickname. What about Elizabeth nn Effie?

It reminds me a bit of people saying 'effing'. But it's really sweet.

NataliaOsipova · 11/12/2016 21:35

Yes - I saw the thread last week. Is it Scottish? The girl in the ballet La Sylphide is called Effie, so I like it as it makes me think of that.

stumblymonkey · 11/12/2016 21:37

I don't dislike the name....it makes me think of an elephant though and not sure why?

NerrSnerr · 11/12/2016 21:48

I think it's nice as a nickname but would like the choice of a'proper' name if it were me.

PaperdollCartoon · 11/12/2016 21:51

I like it but it needs to be a nickname. Give her a proper whole name she can use when she's older. It's not fair to give a child a name that only works for a child when one day they'll be an adult. What if she wants to be a lawyer or a chief executive?

Cosmicglitterpug · 11/12/2016 22:01

Why is that ridiculous argument pedalled out all the time?! You can be a sodding lawyer whether you are called Effie, Margaret or Moonbeams. Ffs

OnTheUp13 · 11/12/2016 22:04

Super sweet!
