Hi all, my husband and I are trying to decide on a name. We like Lianna, but were wondering how most people would pronounce it...

If you want it to be Lee-anna I would add a hyphen so Li-anna as would be more obvious to people

why would you pronounce it with an R at any point in the name? can those of you that would say it as lee-aRn-a explain?

Lee-Anna, quite clearly. No way you need to add a hyphen.

Rhymes with Juliana/Julianna, Rhianna, Mariana, etc.

Interesting.. is Arna the American pronouncation like Elsa & Arna from Frozen even though it's spelt Anna?

I prefer Lee Ann rather than Lee Arna..

As Choco says a double N makes an Anna and a single N makes an Ahna.

At a glance though, people might come out with Li-Ahna. I confess that was my first thought for some reason.

Please don't hyphenate it though Confused

(Incidentally it's proNUNciation, not proNOUNciation.)

My grandmother was Juliana, pronounced Julie-AR-na
I'd assume that Liana would be Lee-AR-na, but that Lianna could be that or Lee-AN-na, but most probably the latter.

Juliana and Julianna are pronounced differently too...

I know a woman called Lianna and she pronounces it

But from the double N I can easily see why people might assume it was Lee-Anna.

The people getting confused by the 'r' probably have a rhotic accent. Li-ahna is probably a better way to describe it.

FGS, do not hyphenate it.

Oh no I've just checked my friends Facebook profile and her name only has one N which makes more sense for a Lee-Arna.

The point is not how we would pronounce it based on your choice of spelling but how you should spell it to get the pronunciation you want.

If you want a Lee-Anna then spell it Leanna.People are very familiar with Leanne so will manage this.

If you want Lee-Arna with a long A spell it Liana.
