Jessica? My oh loves this name and I'm warming to it, but just need a bit more convincing. As it was never on my list. Looking for only positive comments - those who like it can you tell me why - no negative comments please!

Its pretty sophisticated feminine gentle yet strong and classy. Its a name that grows with you and suits throughout your life.
What's not to love.

OlennasWimple · 07/12/2016 00:49

It works at all stages of your life: baby / toddler / school age / uni / work / retirement...

It's classless in the way that Jocasta and Jayden aren't

Strokethefurrywall · 07/12/2016 00:50

I bloody love Jessica - it's the name of DS2's very first love (he's 2 1/2)
She is the more adorable sweetheart you can imagine, I think Jessica works on anyone, it's a fantastic name!

catsofa · 07/12/2016 00:53

Wasn't it invented by Shakespeare? I like it, I've never known a nasty Jess.

BingThing · 07/12/2016 02:36

It's a classic name, not faddy or trendy or of a particular time. Every Jessica I know has an awesome personality. Its a strong feminine name and I like Jess, Jessie etc so it wouldn't bother me if people shortened it. Hope that helps!

Pallisers · 07/12/2016 02:39

Classic, pretty, grown-up, loads of lovely shortened versions/pet names.

It was v. popular in the 70s/80s (in the US anyway - think there was a baby name book called Beyond Jessica and Jason) but is pretty unusual now.

I'd use it.

trolleyoffthelolly · 07/12/2016 02:44

Lovely name. I know some very impressive ones if that helps? But mainly, it works for all ages. Cutesy names are all very well for pre-schoolers, but I would worry about cutesy having negative connotations later in life when they are trying to establish a career. Jessica will always work.

RaeSkywalker · 07/12/2016 02:54

One of my very best friends is a Jessica. She's the kindest person I know. The name works well for people of all ages, it's easy to spell, and she won't spend her life 'explaining' it to people.

I know you didn't want negative comments, and Jessica is a great name. But don't use a name you're unsure of.

Kel1234 · 07/12/2016 03:34

My little one would have been Jessica if she'd been a girl (we didn't want to find out, so chose a boys and a girls name). It's still our girls choice for next time (won't be finding out then either, so will need both).
I love it.

Horsegirl1 · 07/12/2016 03:38

I have a jessica and adore it. Dh chose her name and like you at first I was un sure. Now I absolutely love it and she really suits her name. She gets jessie, jess and jessica all of which I love

SlottedSpoon · 07/12/2016 04:43

It's very 90s, isn't it?

It's a nice name but very run of the mill and rather dated now. For me, even though it's an old and well established name it's not a truly timeless classic like Emma or Anna. It's more of a trend name and that trend has been and gone.

Sorry I know I am not helping. Confused

I think it's REALLY important that you have a name you genuinely love. There are often threads where women were coerced into picking names their partners/families wanted and they just can't learn to love them even after the baby has been born and registered.

If you end up with PND this sort of thing can become a really big deal and the focus of all sorts of angst.

SlottedSpoon · 07/12/2016 04:44

Gosh so sorry, just seen that you asked for NO negative comments. Blush

I do apologise. Should have read the whole thread.

AGrinWithoutACat · 07/12/2016 06:09

I have a Jessica, woke up the day before she was born with it in my head having not considered it in all the long list of alternatives

It's timeless, classic, pretty to look at and to hear

If it helps my Jessica is pretty, outgoing and has a large friendship group, willing to work hard, arty, loving, kind and helpful

SorenaJ · 07/12/2016 07:49

Jessica sounds very pretty, and looks very pretty written down.

lotsoffreckles · 07/12/2016 07:57

My DS is a Jessica and she is amazing Grin

She was Jessi when she was younger and now Jess to her friends and family Jessica in her work life, perfect name to suit all ages x

Ilovewillow · 07/12/2016 08:34

Not sure if it's helpful but my daughters' best friend is called Jessica and she is the only one in the school! I think it's lovely.

CockneyViv · 07/12/2016 08:45

It's a name I've always liked. DP would love us to use it buuuuut it's been popular for over 20 years (good means it's not faddy, bad it means there's a lot of them) and I can't stand Jessie for a girl (its awesome for a boy though - Jesse)

Idodo · 07/12/2016 08:47

I know a Jessica known as Jess and she is really lovely.

SoOverPeppa123 · 07/12/2016 09:55

Thank you everyone. All the reasons you mention are why I like it: sounds pretty but also strong, no explaining, love jess as a nickname (don't like jessie as much but realise you can't control nicknames).
But agree with the negatives as well.. there are a lot of them, though I don't think it's as popular now (which I like!).

Horsegirl1 · 07/12/2016 20:47

My jessica is the only one in her whole school. I really don't think it's that popular now. My jessica is very pretty , loving ,kind , is very popular, works hard at school amd the teachers adore her. She is 5 but acts so grown up at times amd has a really funny vibrant personality . I hope you find the perfect name for your dd . Good luck op xx

Puremince · 09/12/2016 19:08

It's a classic name which won't date.

littlemissM92 · 09/12/2016 19:09

Hopefully helpful.. im a Jessica and I love it :) I think it's a name that suits at all stages through life I get Jessy and jess too which I love c

DeleteOrDecay · 09/12/2016 19:19

It's a timeless name that will grow with the person. Not super popular either, so less chance of there being 4 other Jessica's in her class at school. It's pretty but not too 'princess' if that makes sense? Easy to spell, easy to pronounce and the shortened versions are nice too.

I think it's a solid choice as far as names go.

Youllneedthisfish · 09/12/2016 19:28

I am one! I was born 1974 and it was quite unusual. In the eighties if you went into a gift shop and they had one of those racks of named purses/mugs/keyrings my name was never on the list - used to upset me! I languish under the assumption that as it became very fashionable when I was around ten that people will assume I'm ten years younger than I am deluded

I like it ....
