Awful sorry.

Heratnumber7 · 03/12/2016 23:32

Agree. It's awful.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 03/12/2016 23:34

Nope.

NamesForBoys · 03/12/2016 23:36

Oh, what is wrong with it?

OP posts:
Finola1step · 03/12/2016 23:37

Phil?

NeepNeepNeep · 03/12/2016 23:37

Peggy, Phil and Grant. But there is a Mitchell on Modern Family too who is nice. How about Michael?

SVJAA · 03/12/2016 23:39

I like it, I know a few Mitchells ages ranging from 6 months to 35.

GruffaloPants · 03/12/2016 23:40

I work with a Mitch. I kind of like it.

Pallisers · 03/12/2016 23:42

Big Modern Family watchers here. We often say "really, Mitchell, really?" a la Cameron.

It is ok. I think of it as quite american but I live in the US and don't know any Mitchells so not sure why.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 03/12/2016 23:42

It's demonstrably a surname. Michael is lovely, as is Matthew. If you want the Scots connection, there are plenty of lovely Scottish names that aren't clan family names

Vixxfacee · 03/12/2016 23:43

I don't mind it actually.

WallisFrizz · 03/12/2016 23:43

I really like it. I've known two, both go by Mitch, which I always liked.

Heratnumber7 · 03/12/2016 23:45

To me, it's chavvy.

SausageSoda · 04/12/2016 00:15

Awful IMO, sorry BlushI would imagine a Mitchell the type to appear on the Jeremy Kyle show to take a DNA test.

MessezFaire · 04/12/2016 00:17

I used to go out with one who was charming on the outside but an absolute cuntweasel underneath it all (for a while I was convinced that under the cuntweasel was a very insecure but very thoughtful guy - turned it there was a cockwomble under that)

I dont mind the name itself though I suppose, just has too many associations for me

PrincessMoana · 04/12/2016 01:42

It sounds like mispronounced Michael to me. That's probably how I'd spell it if you said it to me.

swimmerforlife · 04/12/2016 05:41

It's fine OP, I like it. Mumsnet doesn't like surname names.

My first boyfriend was called Mitchell I was 6

Heratnumber7 · 04/12/2016 07:01

swimmer lots of perfectly nice boys' names are surnames: Charles, Andrew, Oliver, Edward, John, Arthur, Albert, Philip, William, Henry, Harry, Joshua, Jeremiah, Keith (ok that's not a nice name), Michael, Robert, Simon etc.

Mitchel is just awful because it's awful.

I'm not sure why all of these people are commenting about it being a surname and therefore not appropriate as a first name? Confused

It was an extremely popular name in Australia a couple of decades ago. I couldn't count on one hand the number of Mitchells I know. Perfectly normal, acceptable first name. Not chavvy. Needs a comeback, just like Michael.

TheScottishPlay · 04/12/2016 08:05

It's definitely not a chavvy name in Scotland. The one I know is known as Mitch by almost everyone though. I'm not keen on this shortening.

sleighmyname · 04/12/2016 08:09

I love it, don't know where the chavvy connotations come from because I don't know any Mitchells.

It was top of the list if dd2 had been a boy

Idodo · 04/12/2016 08:15

I don't mind it. Much better than Malcolm and Walter (see other threads) which seem more popular for some reason.

Sophronia · 04/12/2016 08:18

Not keen. Michael is much nicer.

MiniMaxi · 04/12/2016 08:30

Very American, not common in UK I don't think but I quite like it!
