Scottish/Celtic Names

SunnyDayDreaming101 · 03/12/2016 09:42

Both my DH and I have strong Scottish names and we want to carry on the tradition for our DC 1.

So far we have ruled out a few based on friends using the names or not going with our surname: Harris, Cameron, Hamish, Heather, Brody, Aiden, Lewis are all out and I really like some of themSad

Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Vivienne

yes but also Celtic names as per thread title

VivienneWestwoodsKnickers · 03/12/2016 13:12

True, Claudia, I think I interpreted the desire in the OP to be more Scottish based.

OP There is a big difference between Scottish Gaelic and Irish (speaking as a Scot!). Cornish is also Celtic, so Morwenna, Loveday, Jago, Trevelyan etc, would be incredibly different from Scottish. Welsh: Branwyn, Rhiannon, Dylan, Iwan etc.

Do you mean Celtic as in the various nations or just Scottish?

SunnyDayDreaming101 · 03/12/2016 18:19

Thanks everyone!

Yup more Scottish for sure but Irish is fine too.

I forgot to put Struan on the nope list too, it's my absolute favourite boys name but it's my best friends son- she got there before me Confused.

We don't know if it's a DS or DD, keeping it a surprise, although I'll probably cave week 38 and get a sexing scan!

I really love Rory for a girl and a boy to be honest but partner said no😭

We love the names Bowie and Argyle.

I loved Arran, Baird, Fergus, Innes, Bryce and Knox

Happymac1 · 04/12/2016 23:32

Don't go for Mhairi, you'll have every Gaelic speaker inwardly cringing as it is spelt incorrectly

DeepFriedCamembert · 05/12/2016 16:31

Love Marsaili for a girl

ClaudiaApfelstrudel · 05/12/2016 16:42

I like the name Ailish too, not sure if it's Scottish though
