I thought it was Sam-yall? (Yall rhymes with ball) of course accents are different, so basically is it 1 or 2 syllables?

OP posts:

Sam you el.

WaitrosePigeon · 01/12/2016 07:13

Sam-Yull

AButterfly · 01/12/2016 07:13

Thinking about it it probably should be three syllables as that is how we used to say it as kids when we were teasing a southerner who moved to our school ( yes I know that is cruel but kids often are and obviously I wouldn't do it now). "Sam-you-all"

HearTheThunderRoar · 01/12/2016 07:24

Sam-Yule

TobleroneBoo · 01/12/2016 07:33

Sam Yule

rainbow99 · 01/12/2016 07:35

Sam you ul
Never ever heard it with 2 syllables and it's one of my children's names

LAmusic · 01/12/2016 07:36

Sam-yule

DeepFriedCamembert · 01/12/2016 07:38

I pronounce it Sam-you-ul. My friend who has a Samuel says "Sam-you-Elle"

BikeRunSki · 01/12/2016 07:39

Sam-Yule of Please-get-out-of-bed

IneedAqueenMortificadoNickname · 01/12/2016 07:40

I know 2 families with Samuel's.

One pronounce it Sam Yule.
The other Sam you elle.

If I read it I'd say it the 1st way but would say Sam you elle if you told me that was the way you said it.

Quartz2208 · 01/12/2016 07:42

I think it should be three sam you el based on the traditional biblical interpretation. I say sam Yule though

Posselhoof · 01/12/2016 07:43

Sam-yule

I don't know any who aren't just Sam though

rollonthesummer · 01/12/2016 07:47

Sam yule.

MollyHuaCha · 01/12/2016 07:52

3 syllables. Definitely 3!

Jabuticaba · 01/12/2016 07:57

Sam-yule in English and Sam-u-well in Portuguese. I only know one Samuel, my son's classmate and he's Brazilian. All the English ones are Sam, no idea if they are officially Samuels

cheweduprope · 01/12/2016 07:59

Sam-yull, with yull rhyming with full.

KlingybunFistelvase · 01/12/2016 08:04

It's somewhere between Sam-yule and Sam-ewe-ul.

CordeliaFrost · 01/12/2016 08:24

Sam-yule.

The original Hebrew form, Shmuel is two syllables (smhoo-el), so I've instinctively always pronounced the English form with two syllables as well.

Loyly · 01/12/2016 09:05

Sam-yull

wishparry · 01/12/2016 09:29

I say sam-yule

Scribblegirl · 01/12/2016 09:36

DP is a Samuel (though 99% of the time a Sam) and if he's ever called 'Samuel' it's 'Sam-yule'. I shall say his name with three syllables later and see if he looks at me like Confused Grin

sotiredbutworthit · 01/12/2016 09:37

Sam- u - el. It's also my sons name!

SpecialStains · 01/12/2016 10:17

I have one. I pronounce it Sam-you-el.

FourKidsNotCrazyYet · 01/12/2016 10:25

I'm from Hampshire (so you know my accent) and I pronounce it Sam-Yule. I've never particularly noticed people over pronounce the 'U'

HoratioNightboy · 01/12/2016 15:28

I like to think I say Sam-yule, but I've just said it a few times, tryin to sound casual, and it's closer to Sam-yill. Either way, two syllables!
