We have a long (4 syllable) surname. Is Ruth a bit TOO old fashioned?

The first thing that came into my head was that woman on 'Rising damp' Shock not sure why Confused God, I'm so old

I don't like Ruth at all, sorry. Frances is ok but I prefer more feminine sounding names, I think.

But thankfully we all have different tastes Smile

DorcasthePuffin · 29/11/2016 09:36

I love Ruth

Error404usernamenotfound · 29/11/2016 09:40

I like Ruth; nothing wrong with a plain, strong name for a girl, especially if you have a long surname.

Not sure I'd put it with Frances, as the names don't quite seem to flow together, but it's not often people use their full name like that so that might not bother you.

Ruthie or Frankie as nns - both very cute for a little one and cool when she's older!

ViewBasket · 29/11/2016 10:10

Both lovely names.

Frances is a great name. I would chose Beth instead of Ruth. Maybe less chance of people using a 'ff' sound on Beth rather than Ruth.

Yamadori · 29/11/2016 10:21

I like it

SpidersFromMars · 29/11/2016 10:24

I really like Elizabeth Frances. Ruth is lovely but the one I know doesn't like her name. She feels it's a bit too plain/old fashioned and she'd like to be able to have shortenings. Elizabeth has loads of options and the royal connection too!

AndNowItsSeven · 29/11/2016 10:26

That she is 45.

JellyWitch · 29/11/2016 10:27

Both are lovely names. Underused at the moment in the UK but classic
and transcend generations.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 29/11/2016 10:28

Both excellent names.

Diel · 29/11/2016 10:55

It's strong and timeless. I really like it x

My entire name has been discussed in this thread! Grin And I agree with the comments about them being granny names, too staid etc! I go by an abbreviation of one of the names.

However one of my best friends is called Ruth (early 40s). She's a really lovely girl who suits her name. I actually think a baby Ruth would be a rather sweet, original name just drop the Frances bit Grin

Sophronia · 29/11/2016 14:01

I like it a lot

Zoflorabore · 29/11/2016 14:02

Hate both sorry :(

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 29/11/2016 14:03

Love Ruth.

Not keen on Frances so I'd go for Ruth Elizabeth

SirNiallDementia · 29/11/2016 14:05

I think they are both plain and staid names so I wouldn't use them together.

JudgeJudySheidlin · 29/11/2016 21:45

I'm biased but love Elizabeth Ruth. Swapping it to Ruth Elizabeth is lovely but I think your other choice of Ruth Frances sounds awkward.
