I say it with 3 syllables, but it's supposed to only be 2? Confused

3 syllables will-ee-um

lovelilies · 28/11/2016 23:37

Willy-um
Yorkshire

cheweduprope · 28/11/2016 23:47

Willy-um.

The middle syllable is quite short but definitely there. I'm from the SE. If I say it with 2 syllables, it sounds like a northern/scottish accent to me.

Pluto30 · 28/11/2016 23:49

Will-yum.

I'm Australian.

Sophronia · 29/11/2016 00:15

Will-ee-um.

PatriciaBateman · 29/11/2016 00:23

Will-yum, 2 syllables. Can't say I've ever heard it pronounced any other way but then may simply not have been listening properly! London here.

Will-ee-um

I'm from Kent.

KoalaDownUnder · 29/11/2016 00:52

Will-yum.

I'm Australian.

Exactly what I came to say. Grin

Gruffalosfriend · 29/11/2016 09:42

3 syllables: Willy-am

That makes the Willy part really obvious though Blush

YesILikeItToo · 29/11/2016 09:47

I've just broken the word William by saying it a few dozen times. I have no idea how I used to say it. Confused

PinkSquash · 29/11/2016 09:50

Will-ee-am. I get mildly irritated when listening to the Archers and William is called Will-yam Blush

Loyly · 29/11/2016 09:51

Will-yum

Jabuticaba · 29/11/2016 09:51

I say Will e um but I say it very quickly so it sounds like Will-yum.

myoriginal3 · 29/11/2016 09:52

YesIlike I'm just after doing the exact same thing Grin

Trinpy · 29/11/2016 09:55

Will-ee-um. I'm in the SW.

Will-yum just sounds odd. Reminds me of my toddler who pronounces it Will-um Grin.

tabulahrasa · 29/11/2016 10:01

I say it with 3, but it only has 2 in the accent where I live rather than where I'm from (both Scotland) so I figure it's an accent thing.

Like Amelia

sanityisamyth · 29/11/2016 10:02

Depends if DS is in trouble!! If he's not, it's Will-yum. If he is, and I say his name slower, it's Will-EE-umm!

He's usually just "Pickle" though, so it's not an issue. GrinGrinGrin

3 syllables . Will-lee-um

How can William be 2 syllables if the name Liam is already 2 syllables and William is that plus 'Wil'. Wil (1 syllable) liam (2) =3

ViewBasket · 29/11/2016 10:08

3 syllables

But William is not pronounced like Wil + Liam even if you say it with 3 syllables. Confused

Artandco · 29/11/2016 10:37

Yes it is will-lee-um

SausageSoda · 29/11/2016 12:12

Will-yam. Am Irish.

KoalaDownUnder · 29/11/2016 12:20

Art - Liam is with the stress on the first syllable. LEE-um. That's not how I've ever heard the end of William pronounced.

Artandco · 29/11/2016 12:21

Koala - yes 'will-LEE-um'. It's the only way I have ever heard it

lottiegarbanzo · 29/11/2016 12:39

Never heard that - lived all over England. WILL-y-am
