Thanks.

Emilia. It's really beautiful and (IMHO) has an added elegance. I prefer Emilia over Amelia written down too, it must be the extra i in it :-)

Rinceoir · 26/11/2016 23:48

Emilia. It is lovely and elegant.

Amelia is a very pretty name, but it has another (medical) meaning that I always think of (if I didn't know this I would like the name more!).

MiniMaxi · 27/11/2016 06:46

I prefer Emilia - or Amelie (French spelling). I suppose it's worth considering what people would shorten them to...?
Amelia = Amy / Ams
Emilia = Emmy / Em / Ems

RaeSkywalker · 27/11/2016 06:52

Emilia is prettier written down, but I would go with Amelia, to avoid a lifetime of saying "with an 'E'!"

My friend has an Amelia, nn Millie.

Emilia
Congenital Amelia is a condition where a person is born without limbs

stillwantrachelshair · 27/11/2016 08:29

Whilst Emilia may be less popular, there is at one in most years at DD's school and, as there is at least one Amelia in each year as well as various Amelies, they are bundled up together essentially so known as firstname & surname. The Emilys don't seem to get caught up in this (but I think there are only two in the school).
This might not bother you, it might not bother your DD but, remember, it won't just be school but Uni and likely the workplace too.

ISpeakJive · 27/11/2016 08:50

Thanks very much for this everyone.

I had absolutely no idea that there was a condition with the name 'Amelia' in it. Not actually sure it would put me off the name but knowing my DH, if he gets a whiff of that, he would vetoe it completely.

Mums the word, I think Wink

Emilia

Dizzybintess · 27/11/2016 23:58

I have an Emilia xx
There are 3 more Amelia's in my Dds class

Dizzybintess · 28/11/2016 00:02

We used the name as we went on honeymoon go Emilia Romanga
I do get lots of people spelling it with an A
And my husbands absent idiot of a dad once sent us a xmas present labelled Emily (Grrr)..... we don't have contact any more!
I often say it's Emilia like Emilia fox or Clarke

pilates · 28/11/2016 09:23

Emilia

goldenrachita · 28/11/2016 10:34

I prefer Emilia. Pretty name! I don't think there will be a problem spelling it in the future as Amelia and Emilia, will be just like Claire and Clare are for the 70s generation. Both very popular spellings of a very popular name- she'll just say 'with an E', the same as all those Claires say 'with an i'.

PunkAssMoFo · 28/11/2016 16:37

As Amelia means limbless and Emelia would be forever spelt wrong I would choose something like Emmeline or Amelie instead. They're both beautiful names though.

passingthrough1 · 28/11/2016 16:54

I'm saying both out loud and struggling to hear much of a difference.
I think Emilia looks nicer written down.

ISpeakJive · 28/11/2016 21:16

Thanks all for the honest feedback. I do like both names but hate the idea of having to keep explaining the spelling for Emilia.

Amelia. Because I have such fabulous memories of my great aunt Millie. She was fierce before fierce was a thing. Magnificent woman.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 29/11/2016 19:55

I think they are both lovely.
I do prefer Amelia as I do think the Emilia spelling
might need explaining and could get annoying Confused
Just in case-throwing another hat in the ring-
There is the most darling girl who lives across the road from me
named Aurelia...

KlingybunFistelvase · 29/11/2016 20:06

I prefer Amelia written down, though they sound the same when I say them out loud anyway. For that reason I'd go with Amelia, even if I didn't prefer it, just so she won't constantly be correcting people! If they sound the same anyway, I'd just go with the easiest spelling, unless there was a special reason to use Emilia.

ISpeakJive · 30/11/2016 14:32

Thanks very much for the feedback.

Mumsie, I love the name Aurelia but DH has completely refused it!
