Ben or Ted

Trying to name my DS1 who is 2 weeks old and totally stuck between these two. Ben may be BC Benjamin but essentially Ben. Ted could be Teddy as NN but BC Ted.

I like both but would say Ted/Teddy as that's ds1s name! His name on bc is Edward though.

DramaAlpaca · 22/11/2016 19:56

I'd go for Benjamin, nn Ben.

I much prefer it to Ted/Teddy.

Congratulations on your new little man! Flowers

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 22/11/2016 19:56

Ben

Meadows76 · 22/11/2016 19:57

Ben is quite common. Ted sounds unfinished though so I would pick Ben every time

TheBakeryQueen · 22/11/2016 19:59

They're both lovely names.

Titsywoo · 22/11/2016 20:01

I have a Ben although he is just that not a Benjamin - fab name but I might be biased Wink

Sandsnake · 22/11/2016 20:08

I can't imagine disliking a man named Ben or Ted Smile

LittleMissMama93 · 22/11/2016 20:29

Love the name Ben, it's so cute!

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 22/11/2016 20:32

Ben.

NapQueen · 22/11/2016 20:32

Ted

Raines100 · 23/11/2016 06:35

Ben

HearTheThunderRoar · 23/11/2016 07:01

Ben by a country mile, it's a timeless name.

Ted just seems so short and naff, especially by itself.

Sophronia · 23/11/2016 07:24

Benjamin nn Ben. Ted/Teddy is very 'now'.

MiniMaxi · 23/11/2016 07:25

I love both names. How about Theodore as a full name for Ted if you're not keen on Edward? (Common in the US, I guess here Theo is more frequently used as nn)

LottieDoubtie · 23/11/2016 07:26

Both great names. I prefer 'Ted' as a nickname for Edward.

Ben/Benjamin is a great name too though. You have great taste!

TheWiseOldElf · 23/11/2016 07:46

I like both Ben and Ted for nn. Not keen on just Ted so if you don't like Edward/Theodore for the bc then I would definitely go in favour of Benjamin/Ben.

Chinlo · 23/11/2016 07:57

I hate the name Ted/Teddy. So Ben for me.

Gruffalosfriend · 23/11/2016 08:25

Ben is quite common, but I too dislike Ted/dy so would have to choose Benjamin.

SimpleAsADimple · 23/11/2016 14:04

Thanks all for the responses (now updated to personal username!). A few have mentioned Ben/Benjamin is common but it's nowhere near the top 20 boys names of the last 10/20 years in terms of number of babies named such as Oliver, Jack, William et al. (All lovely names too by the way.

Think Benjamin was c. #30 last year and Ben #150.

Agree Ted perhaps doesn't feel 'complete' and not fully keen on Teddy/ Edward/ Theodore (all lovely but not out choice)

Didn't realise this would be such a minefield!

Chinlo · 23/11/2016 14:17

You could also use Benedict for Ben.

LaurieLauren · 23/11/2016 14:39

Ted/Teddy - I really like it :)

SpidersFromMars · 23/11/2016 17:12

I think a long version on the bc is nice. I like both Ben and Ted for short versions, but Ben/Benjamin as a combination much more.

DakotaFanny · 23/11/2016 17:14

Love them both helpful
