Hi Smile this is our chosen name, so I'm not looking for opinions on it.

How would you pronounce it? I've noticed that some say it (in my family) as Iv-ry and Vi-let, but some say it as Iv-o-ry and Vi-o-let.

Help!

I would pronounce both of them with three syllables, but no emphasis and quite a soft sound on the middle o (if that makes sense)

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 18/11/2016 16:29

I-vor-ee!

DorotheaHomeAlone · 18/11/2016 16:35

Three syllables each.

Sophronia · 18/11/2016 16:38

Three syllables each

BertrandRussell · 18/11/2016 16:42

Three syllables.

But lots of English people speak an accent/dialect that will make it two- you'll have to be prepared to accept that.......

steppemum · 18/11/2016 16:43

very pretty and unusual.

3 syllables each for me, but then I like to pronounce things properly and hate run-together words and phrases.

ProfYaffle · 18/11/2016 16:44

Vi-let Iv-or-y.

ProfYaffle · 18/11/2016 16:45

Sorry, meant to add, I love it. Pretty and unusual.

KlingybunFistelvase · 18/11/2016 16:46

Lovely!

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 18/11/2016 16:52

I really like your chosen name OP, lovely.
Three syllables.

Anononoo · 18/11/2016 16:56

my mother insists on saying Vi-o-let. I think she is right.

Dilligufdarling · 18/11/2016 17:21

I say Violet more like Vire-lett and then
I-vor-EE

BertrandRussell · 18/11/2016 17:26

Why would you say Ivor-EE? Would you say that for elephant tusks?

Lutrine · 18/11/2016 18:42

Vio-Lut I-vor-i

Pluto30 · 18/11/2016 21:53

Violet is two syllables where I live, whereas Ivory is three.

So it would be Vy-let Eye-vor-ee.
