Have a penchant for surname sounding names, liked this for years, what's your thoughts?
Do you think it will suit a grown man and does it sound too American?

I love it!

QueenOfTheNaps · 17/11/2016 20:36

I once knew (had a fling with) a man with the surname Sawyer and he used it as his nickname. I like it!

ScarletForYa · 17/11/2016 20:36

Love, love, love it.

And I dislike surname names, but this one works.

Joinourclub · 17/11/2016 20:37

Yes it sounds American, but not 'too'American.

PinkiePiesCupcakes · 17/11/2016 20:38

Wasn't he the hot one on Lost?

Schmoochypoos · 17/11/2016 20:40

I really like it

DramaAlpaca · 17/11/2016 21:21

Really good name, I love it.

Sophronia · 17/11/2016 21:25

I know a girl named Sawyer (American), I do prefer it for a boy though.

TheCakes · 17/11/2016 21:26

By sheer coincidence, DH is watching Lost right now. Sawyer is indeed the hot one!

MrsTerryPratchett · 17/11/2016 21:37

Love it. Unless your surname is Tom.

AuntJane · 17/11/2016 22:30

Pronounced as Soya?

ScarletForYa · 18/11/2016 08:34

Soy-er. The r is pronounced.

NoArtificialColours · 18/11/2016 08:45

It does sound American but it's really nice.

Good choice

Pluto30 · 18/11/2016 09:27

I prefer it for a girl, but like it for either. Smile

Although, in England and other places, it'll be pronounced like soya.

KlingybunFistelvase · 18/11/2016 09:31

I like it! But would probably have assumed it was a girl name. I don't know why. Think it's nice for either girl or boy.

HateSummer · 18/11/2016 09:33

First thought: Sawyer from Lost, who was a criminal who redeemed himself. I personally don't like the name. It's very American.

user1470686892 · 18/11/2016 20:07

Ah, I remember Sawyer from Lost now, maybe one of the best looking men I've ever seen.

Well that answers my question about it suiting a man.

Thanks for all your positive comments.

Yeah, he was gorgeous.

SuePerkins · 18/11/2016 20:40

I know of a girl Sawyer, pronounced like Soya. I think it's much more suited to a boy.

allthatnonsense · 18/11/2016 21:26

It does sound American to me. This is fine if you are American, but not so great if you're British imo.

Onenerfwarfrombreakdown · 18/11/2016 22:15

I know a little girl named Sawyer, at first I was a bit surprised as I'd never heard it used for a girl but it actually really suits her and I think it can work for either boy or girl.
Also helps that I'm in Scotland so it's pronounced with a very definite rolling "rrr" sound at the end and could never ever be mistaken for soya!

Mclaren37 · 20/11/2016 07:07

I like it! Word of warning, it sounds much nicer when the R is pronounced. We have an Archer who was born in the States. When we moved to England it sounded slightly less attractive pronounced Aacha. (Both the Rs disappeared!) The same will happen with Sawya. As pps have said, if you are in the US or Scotland then go for it!

Fairylea · 20/11/2016 07:33

I don't like it. Sorry! All I can think of is the guy from Lost!

BlossomHillOne · 20/11/2016 07:42

I don't like it - sorry.

user1470686892 · 20/11/2016 12:14

Fairylea Lucky you! Wink
