Abel is my favourite by miles. That's my vote.

Sorry, it was Rohan Red that's a little Farrow and Ball though - is Rohan pronounced the same as Rowan, or like Ro - HAN?

Rowan is nice, and so is Rohan if the emphasis is on the first syllable with a silent 'h'.

The second list looks like a line up for a relaunch of Gladiators.

I like Atticus and Ivan the best (although they clearly don't go together very well).

Middle name -whatever sounds best with surname really. Unless it's a family name, I don't think surnames are all that terribly important. That said, I am partial to Valentine! Abel Valentine might sound odd though, like he's an able valentine .

I love Atticus as it makes me think of To Kill a Mockingbird. Luther is also quite cool.

Also think of To Kill a Mockingbird with Atticus, which I love. I haven't actually read it but I think Atticus Finch goes bad in the sequel though? Offputting, if the character is the reason you like the name.

Please not Abel. If he isn't, that will be a really difficult name at school.

Yes I've heard about that actually regarding Atticus which does put me off... also haven't read it myself though.

I'd pick Orion, Caspar or Ivan. They're lovely :) it's a bit wasteful to use any of them them as a middle name...

The 'wasteful' comment wasn't meant to be taken seriously. I just think these are genuinely awesome names.

It's not really a sequel; it's a first draft that is not as good as the book she went on to write, It will never succeed TKAM in popular culture IMHO

That is a very strong association with that particular name, so if you don't think your ds will tire of having that conversation every time he meets someone new, I wouldn't worry too much.

I like Abel Cassius from your names. I know I'm in the minority but I think Atticus is an appalling name to saddle a person with!

Ivan Valentine is an amazing name. I would be compelled to try and befriend anyone i met with that name to see if they were as much of a legend as their name suggested!

Ivan or Otis are ok from the first list. Abel is too Biblical and Atticus too hipster-trendy for me. I quite like Caspar.

The second list other than Caspar is erm... interesting. 'Riders of Rohan! Arise, arise! Fell deeds awake: fire and slaughter! ... Ride for ruin… and the world’s ending! Death! Death!' That is the immediate context when I hear Rohan, and LoTR isn't exactly likely to fall out of the general consciousness. If you call him Rohan, you really need to get him a horse

I think they marketed it that way, tbh klingy - and it sort of goes into the future further so that's how they've justified it, but it was actually what she wrote first and had rejected and altered into TKAM.
