It's a name I read in a book years ago but always liked. For a girl. Just me?

To be fair, I quite like it for a house actually! Grin

alongside octavia butterfly and akita, roah looks positively dull!

tbh i don't hate roah, like i'm way to 'top 20' to use it myself, but i'd say ur firmly rocking the 'out there' look, and i thought it was pretty but unusual.
however she would get a lot of noah and roar i reckon. it's a life time of 'it's roah, like noah with an r'
it's not like octavia butterfly or akita have that issue...

YouHadMeAtCake · 08/11/2016 18:56

Navywhite I agree. Ridiculous.

Yawninghippo · 08/11/2016 18:58

Personally rather ridiculous than boring, but that's me. Grin

Isn't a Rhea a kind of ostrich?

Floggingmolly · 08/11/2016 19:06

Believe me, boring is a million times better than ridiculous. It's a person's name; how can you be happy with one that sounds ridiculous?? Confused

Yawninghippo · 08/11/2016 19:07

I could always try 'Emu'. That way there's a little creature featured in all their names!

Thank you everyone for their thoughts, I still like it, but might just consign 'Roah' to my guilty pleasures. I'm sure I can find something that fits.

I like it better with the spelling Roa...

How about Moa?

Yawninghippo · 08/11/2016 19:11

My daughter is happy with Butterfly, no reason for me to not be. She knows her 'other name' is Octavia, but if anyone calls her that she corrects them instantly. Tbf, it was my ex that agreed with my eldest to name her that, I waivered for a few weeks because I loved the name I had picked, then thought actually it's 'her' so why not? I guess me and mine will have to agree to disagree on name choices.

I think Rowan is lovely, as is such a pretty tree.

Yawninghippo · 08/11/2016 19:13

I don't know if I've ever seen a Rowan tree. Smile

OP posts:
GruochMacAlpin · 08/11/2016 19:18

Rowan trees are planted in front of lots of homes in Scotland as it is traditionally a tree that protects from witches and evil spirits. It's considered extremely bad luck to cut down a Rowan.

It's a lovely looking tree with red berries.

pinkpostitnote · 08/11/2016 20:39

Beautiful autumn colour!

pinkpostitnote · 08/11/2016 20:41

Apparently very magical too.

Roah?
OSETmum · 08/11/2016 20:59

Rowenna is beautiful!

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 08/11/2016 21:02

Rowenna is really lovely.

Adarajames · 09/11/2016 02:29

Yawning - if you're in the uk you will have seen loads of them as are found all over Smile

nooka · 09/11/2016 05:36

Interesting middle names are fine, you can use them if you choose or drop them if you find them embarrassing. Seems like a bit of a family tradition in the OP's case. First names that most people don't recognise as names are a bit more challenging. I have a very unusual name (never met another, always have to spell it etc) but I always get positive comments on it. I'd really not like a name that most people assume is probably a typo.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 09/11/2016 05:42

I love baby name threads. They make me really appreciate the fact that my parents gave me a 'boring' name.

Yawninghippo · 09/11/2016 07:19

My mother has a very unusually spelt name but it's easy to pronounce when you know how. I have a common name that I live with but would always have preferred something I felt fitted more with my personality. My DC have all grown into their unusual names and it works for us. Just as someone who chose traditional names for children would agree they suited them. I don't expect people to agree with my choices, the DC love them and that's all that matters. If they change their minds then they all have 'more usable' names to fall back on but atm they introduce themselves proudly.

And I shall look out for my nearest Rowan tree, they sound lovely!

I know a Cadah, similar sound and it's a gorgeous name. I quite like Roah, it's along similar lines to Noah or Roald

Pinkponiesrock · 09/11/2016 15:57

Just RTFT and going along with the Scottish Macbeth theme, Ruadh is the Gaidhlig word for Red. It's pronounced very similarly to Roah

HanarCantWearSweaters · 09/11/2016 16:02

Morgana is a good name. Wink Never met another.

pregnantat50 · 09/11/2016 16:58

I like the names:-

Tia
Oletta
Milli
Sybil
Isla
Ivy

If I was more adventurous I would go for

Gamble
Mothers Ruin
Stinker
Poo Pants

Luckily I stuck to Sophie Jasmine for my daughter in the end! lol
