Elly... For a boy?

Right, I'm seriously confused and a bit upset! I have a son named Oliver, who I like to call Oliver but do sometimes use Ollie, he also likes to be known as Ollie at school. That's fine. My second son is named Elliot. He gets Elly!? ALL THE TIME. I call him Elliot so I naturally say Oliver too, so they're Oliver and Elliot so it's not like I always say Ollie so people naturally go to Elly.

Elly for a boys name, is this a thing?

Can you try and get people to call him Ell instead? (My boys think that names that sound like a single letter are cool eg Jay (for Jack ) , Bea (for Beatrice), Em (for Emma)

My son has a friend called Ellis and his nickname is Ells

What about suggesting Eli as a nickname?
Unfortunately though nicknames are generally organic and classmates will pick their own.

Ells is good.

One thing my grandmother taught me was when naming my child to think of all the permeatations of it that it could be shortened to and make sure none of them bothered me,,something for the mums in the middle of naming a child.

My own name is short, it's a name seldom shortened and seriously people still do it as a way of being matey.

I'd try to change it to els.

Elliot is on my shortlist and I was worried if I picked it he would get Elly.. which I really don't like. I was thinking if we pick it to use Eli as a nn. But hen you can't always stop what they get called at school..
I'm really picky with names that might get shortened so not sure whether to go with it or not..

I've a friend called Elliott and he gets El or Els. Or SuperEl. Like SuperHans I suppose.

You can't control what his friends call him. It's a natural shortening, Ellie, for Elliot, just like Ollie is for Oliver.

El sounds lovely me Elle, that's more feminine imo
